If you know me, you know I love making themed treats for every holiday. I just think they’re adorable and so much fun.

So, for a potluck at our clubhouse this October, I made a variety of cute Halloween Rice Krispies treats. They were a huge hit.

This post will show you how to make the mummy version, which is honestly the easiest. And, in general, mummy treats are really easy Halloween treats because you don’t have to pipe any faces and mummy bandages are not perfect, so you don’t have to pipe perfectly to make them.

How To Make Mummy Rice Krispies Treats:

Butter melting in a Dutch oven.

Melt the butter in a Dutch oven (or large pot) over low heat.

Mini marshmallows in a measuring cup about to be poured into a Dutch oven.

Add in the mini marshmallows and stir with a bamboo spoon until they’re completely melted.

Rice cereal in a measuring cup about to be poured into a Dutch oven.

Remove the Dutch oven from the heat and add in the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until combined.

Rice Krispies Treats in a metal pan.

Pour the mixture into a prepared pan.

Personally, I grease the baking pan with a tiny bit of butter.

Alternatively, you could line the pan with parchment paper or wax paper. In theory you could use cooking spray, but I don’t like the taste of it so I don’t recommend it.

Use the bamboo spoon to spread the mixture into an even layer in the pan.

Resist the temptation to use your hands to put the mixture down. That will result in really dense treats that taste stale, even when they’re fresh.

Let the treats sit for an hour.

Put a cutting board on the tray, and flip the tray over and the treats will plop right out. Then, flip them back over so the flat surface is on top.

Vanilla almond bark pieces in a black and red bowl.

Melt half the vanilla almond bark, according to the package.

If you’ve never used almond bark, the easiest way to melt it is to put in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for a minute. Give it a good stir. Then, microwave and stir in 30 second intervals until the almond bark is completely melted.

Spoon some of the melted vanilla almond bark onto a Rice Krispies Treat. Use the back of the spoon to spread the vanilla almond bark across the entire treat.

Mummy Rice Krispies Treats: Frequently Asked Questions

How long will homemade Rice Krispies Treats last?

Homemade Rice Krispies Treats taste best on the day you make them and the next day. After that, they start to taste stale.

How do you store leftover Rice Krispies Treat?

If you have leftover treats, wrap them in plastic wrap. Then, put the treats in either a freezer-safe bag or an airtight container.  You can leave them at room temperature for two days that way.

If you need to store them longer, put that bag or container in the freezer for up to two weeks. Don’t put them in the fridge.

Do you have to use Rice Krispies cereal?

You can use different brands, either brand name or generic, of rice cereal. Generic is usually cheaper unless there’s a sale on the brand name.

Can you use full-sized marshmallows?

Mini marshmallows melt a lot easier than full-sized marshmallows do. However, if you all you can find in stock are full-sized marshmallows, you can use those.

You need an entire 10 oz. bag of full-sized marshmallows for this recipe.

Can you use white chocolate chips instead of vanilla almond bark?

Vanilla almond bark (which you can find in the baking aisle of your local grocery store) melts a lot easier than white chocolate chips do. Plus, if they get hard, you can reheat them in the microwave. You can’t do that with white chocolate chips.

You can reheat white candy melts, however, I prefer the taste of vanilla almond bark to candy melts, so that’s why I suggest using that.

Can you use store-bought Rice Krispies Treats to make these?

If you don’t feel like making these yourself, you can pick up packaged Rice Krispies Treats. Open those and then just follow our directions for decorating them.
