I’m absolutely in love with this Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy. It’s so cute and the perfect homemade Halloween treat.

What’s super fun about these mummies is when you smash them open, they’ll filled with candy inside. So it’s basically a chocolate piñata that’s shaped like a mummy.

Even better, these Halloween mummy chocolate smash balls use the same silicone mold that you might have from making hot chocolate bombs all last winter. So this is another use for it.

If you don’t own the mold yet, purchase it now and you can use it to make hot chocolate bombs this winter.

Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy Ingredients:

How To Make A Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy:

A square of vanilla almond bark in a bowl.

Melt one of the vanilla almond bark squares according to the package.

If you’ve never used these before, the easiest way to do this is to microwave the vanilla almond bark square for one minute, flip it, and then microwave it for an additional 30 seconds. Then, stir the vanilla almond bark until its completely smooth.

A paint brush being used to "paint" melted white chocolate into a dome silicone mold.

Use a clean paint brush to brush a thin layer of melted vanilla almond bark into four cavities of a dome silicone mold.

Two quick side notes. First, make sure you are using a paint brush that is designated for food only. Don’t use a paint brush that you have previously used to paint.

Second, don’t worry if you have leftover vanilla almond bark. You won’t use all of it right now, but you will use all of it by the end of the recipe.

White chocolate painted into a dome silicone mold.

Place the dome silicone mold in the freezer for 30 minutes.

Melt the second square of vanilla almond bark in the same bowl that you used for the first square.

“Paint” a second layer of melted vanilla almond bark in the mold.

You should have some leftover vanilla almond bark in the bowl. That’s okay. We’re going to need it, so don’t throw it away.

Place the dome silicone mold in the freezer for an hour.

Four white chocolate domes.

Gently pop the domes out of the mold.

A white chocolate dome on a plate.

Heat a plate in the microwave for a minute.

Take one of the domes and put it, open side down, on the plate. Quickly count to 10. Repeat that with a second dome.

Fill those two domes with the candy.

Heat the plate in the microwave for another 30 seconds.

A white chocolate sphere.

Take one of the unfilled domes and put it, open side down, on the plate. Quickly count to 10.

Place that dome on top of one of the candy-filled domes. Gently push it down to seal the two domes together.

Repeat that with the final dome to make a second filled ball.

Another quick aside: If you don’t melt both sides of the dome, one will be a little larger than the other, which means it won’t close properly.

Melted white chocolate in a bag above a white chocolate ball.

Remelt the vanilla almond bark that’s in your bowl.

Spoon the melted vanilla almond bark into a ziptop plastic bag. Cut a hole in the corner of the bag to make it a piping bag. (If you have a piping bag, you can just use that instead of making one.)

A Halloween Chocolate Breakable Mummy.

Pipe thin lines of vanilla almond bark all across the domes to look like the mummy’s ribbon.

While the thin lines are still warm, stick two eyeballs into each mummy.

Let the vanilla almond bark cool completely before wrapping the Halloween Mummy Chocolate Smash Balls.

Five wooden hammers.

When you do package these, be sure to include a Homemade Wooden Hammer. We made those when we made Chocolate Easter Smash Eggs.

If you don’t feel like making hammers for these, you can purchase wooden hammers online.

Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy: Frequently Asked Questions

What can you fill a Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy with?

Any wrapped or candy-coated candy works, or any jelly-type candy (like gummy worms or candy corn), works in this Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummy. Mini marshmallows work too.

Plain, unwrapped chocolate, like chocolate chips, won’t work because those can get stuck to the inner “walls” of the mummy.

Why do you melt both sides of the domes?

When you’re making these, you want to melt both sides of the dome. If you only melt one side, one side will actually be larger than the other so they won’t line up properly. And that would make it so there’s just the tiniest bit of chocolate holding the two sides together. If you bump them gently, they might break.

In this mummy, where you’re filling it with candy, it doesn’t make that big of a deal if they don’t align properly (except, like we said above, they could break super easily).

But, if you were filling these with hot chocolate to make them Halloween hot chocolate bombs, and one side was larger than the other, the hot chocolate would fall out the gap.

Can you make these ahead of time?

You can make these Halloween Breakable Chocolate Mummies ahead of time. They’ll last almost forever, honestly, so you can make them now and give them out for Halloween.

Do you have to use vanilla almond bark?

You need vanilla almond bark for this recipe. White chocolate chips won’t work. Those won’t remelt in the way that vanilla almond bark will, which means you’ll either be burning the white chocolate chips or you’ll be throwing away so many leftovers.
