Sometimes, weeknight cooking is no fun. There are some nights where you want to make something the entire family will love, but you also want to make something easy. Trust me. I get it. We make every meal at home and I feel the same way some nights.

These Sausage And Peppers Hawaiian Roll Sliders fill that bill.

You make one big sandwich, then cut it into 12 perfectly identical sliders. It’s so much easier to make them this way rather than making a dozen sliders, one by one.

These are also a really good party or game day recipe too. They’re an easy way to feed a crowd quickly, which is part of why we like them. The other part is that they’re just really tasty. Meat, cheese, Hawaiian dinner rolls. What’s not to like?

Add in the chopped garlic.

Ground sausage, red pepper pieces, orange pepper pieces, and onion pieces in a skillet.

Add in the ground sausage, making sure to break it apart. Sprinkle with salt. (You could add black pepper here if you wanted, but we don’t.) Cook everything together for about eight minutes until the sausage is cooked through.

A pack of Hawaiian slider rolls cut in half.

While that’s cooking, use a serrated knife to cut the Hawaiian savory butter rolls in half. Make sure you’re keeping all the individual rolls together. Right now, you’re just treating the roll bottoms like one big piece of bread. Put the bottom half into a baking pan.

Take the sliders out of the oven and use a spatula to remove them from the pan and transfer them to a cutting board. Then, cut them along the indents to make 12 individual sliders.

Side note: I don’t add marinara sauce to my sausage and peppers recipe. I know that’s an Italian thing, and Pete does it, but I didn’t grow up eating it that way. If you do want to add some marinara, add it (or just tomato paste) to the pan when you add the sausage.

Sausage And Peppers Hawaiian Roll Sliders: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls instead of savory butter rolls?

We love King’s Hawaiian Rolls. Honestly, you can use any brand of Hawaiian rolls, but King’s Hawaiian are just the most well known. But, for this recipe, we recommend the Hawaiian butter rolls instead of the sweet rolls.

Sweet rolls are delicious, but they add a sweetness (obviously) that’s not necessary in this savory sandwich.

What sausage works best in this recipe?

We use mild pork sausage in this recipe so we can control the flavoring of the recipe. If you like it spicier, you can use hot Italian sausage instead. If you do use that, though, I would skip the Creole seasoning because the seasoning from the hot sausage will overpower it.

Can you use another cheese in these?

We use mozzarella cheese because it makes them more of an Italian Sausage and Pepper sliders recipe. But, if you’d prefer, you can use slices of Provolone cheese instead. We don’t recommend American cheese because it doesn’t really taste great with the sausage.

If you do use mozzarella cheese, we recommend using the block of cheese rather than bagged shredded cheese. The cheese that comes in a bag has preservatives to keep it from clumping in the bag. Those preservatives prevent it from melting well. So you don’t want to use it in a recipe like this, where you’re really looking for that melted cheese.

Take the time to actually shred the block of cheese and your sliders will be better for it.

Can you use green peppers in this recipe?

If you have a green bell pepper that you need to use up, you can absolutely use it in this recipe. We prefer the sweetness that the orange and red peppers add, but if you’re on a budget (because green peppers are cheaper than red or orange), you can totally use those.

Speaking of peppers, if you’re looking for more recipes using them, check out all of our Budget-Friendly Pepper Recipes.

How can you store leftovers?

Store any leftover Sausage And Pepper sliders in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

Honestly, we like these better as leftovers than when they’re fresh out of the oven. So if you wanted to, you could make these the night before, let them cool, and then serve them for dinner the next day.

How can you reheat leftovers?

The best way to reheat leftovers is in the air fryer. Heat them at 350 F for four minutes, flipping halfway, until the meat is reheated. You can also reheat them in the microwave, if you prefer, but the slider buns get really soft that way and sort of messy.
