I’m a big fan of cute treats. The cuter, the better, honestly. And I’m a fan of making chocolate bark because it’s simple and delicious. Combine those two things and this Reindeer Chocolate Bark recipe was born.

It’s a Christmas treat that’s fun to make — and that you can make in bulk. So if you have a few friends or neighbors that you need gifts for, this is an easy way to bang them all out at once.

The Reindeer Chocolate Bark is also really eye catching, so it would look great on a Christmas cookie platter.

This recipe using a pack of Rudolph Reindeer Cookie Ball Decorations because it’s easier to buy that — with the eyes and noses — than buying them separately.

Reindeer Chocolate Bark Ingredients:

How To Make Reindeer Chocolate Bark:

Pretzels on a cutting board.

Cut the mini twists pretzels in half, making sure to keep the two rounded portions in tact.

Remove any pretzel from the bottom, leaving just the rounded portions of the twist. Set aside.

Chocolate almond bark in a bowl.

Melt the chocolate almond bark in the microwave according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to cut it into squares, put them in a bowl, and microwave for one minute. Stir. Microwave for another 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat this process until the almond bark is completely melted.

Melted chocolate in a cookie sheet.

Pour the melted chocolate almond bark into a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.

Use the back of a spoon or an icing knife to smooth out the melted almond bark to assure it’s an even thickness. Set aside.

Melted white chocolate in a bowl.

Melt the vanilla almond bark.

Milk and dark chocolate melted on a cookie sheet.

Dip a spoon in the vanilla almond bark, then drizzle the vanilla almond bark over the melted chocolate almond bark. A few clumps are okay, but thinner lines work best.

Melted white and milk chocolate swirled together.

Run a toothpick from side to side, from top to bottom, through the whole tray one time. Then, turn the tray a quarter turn, and run the toothpick side to side, from top to bottom, again.

Now it’s time to make the reindeer faces.

Reindeer faces made from candy and pretzels on white and milk chocolate.

Put two of the pretzel pieces near each other to make two antlers. Add two candy eyes and a candy ball for a nose. Use the red candy to make Rudolph or a black candy to make one of Santa’s other reindeer.

Personally, I like how Rudolph looks better than the other reindeer.

You’ll only want to make a handful of reindeer and leave most of the candy bark just chocolate. The reindeer look cute, but the candy eyes and noses don’t taste that great. They’re not bad, but you just don’t want to eat them in every bite.

Put the entire cookie sheet in the fridge for 20 minutes or until the chocolate is completely hardened.

Pieces of Reindeer Chocolate Bark.

Remove the cookie sheet from the fridge and remove the chocolate bark (leaving it on the parchment paper) from the cookie sheet.

Haphazardly cut the chocolate bark into pieces. When you’re cutting, you want to keep the entire reindeer face in one bite, but you can cut the chocolate portion of the reindeer candy bark any way you want.

Package the reindeer candy bark, with the parchment paper, in a cute airtight Christmas-themed container to make it the perfect edible Christmas gift.

Reindeer Chocolate Bark: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use chocolate chips to make this chocolate bark?

In theory, sure, if you want to use chocolate chips to make this reindeer chocolate bark, you can.

But I don’t recommend it.

Chocolate chips are pretty fickle. And easy to burn. If you’re melting them and overmelt them, they’re ruined. They burn and there’s no way to save them.

And if you don’t work fast enough and your chocolate chips harden before you’re ready for them to, you can’t remelt them.

Almond bark doesn’t act that way. It’s super forgiving. And if it hardens when you work with it, you can remelt it.

Chocolate almond bark does taste like chocolate chips, so you’ll still get a chocolate flavor from this — unlike candy melts, which don’t taste like chocolate at all.

Do you have to use Rudolph Reindeer Cookie Ball Decorations?

If you can’t find Rudolph Reindeer Cookie Ball Decorations, you can use candy eyeballs and small, red, round sprinkles for the noses.

If you have leftover eyes and sprinkles — and leftover pretzels — you can also make chocolate reindeer pretzels with them.

Can you make Reindeer Chocolate Bark ahead of time?

If you need to make this reindeer chocolate bark ahead of time, you can.

Make the chocolate bark when you have time, then store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It’ll last for two to three weeks in the fridge.

If you’re giving this Christmas chocolate bark as a gift, be sure to think about how long it might take for your gift recipient to eat it. You don’t want to make it three weeks ahead of time and then expect your gift recipient to eat the entire batch in a single night.
