Oreo Chocolate Bark Recipe

This Oreo chocolate bark is delicious, easy to make, and is a good gift idea if you need to make some neighbors gifts this holiday season.

We have a pot luck twice a month at our community, and I’m a big fan of bringing chocolate or candy bark there. It’s easy to make it bulk and cut into pieces. So you can make a lot with minimal effort. Like when you make our Oreo Chocolate Bark. You can cut it into pieces so everyone gets one, but really you’re just making one thing.

This Oreo candy bark recipe is also really good for an edible holiday gift idea. It comes out really pretty, so you can definitely gift it.

In fact, when I made it for our community pot luck and put it on the table, my mom turned to me and said, “Do you think someone made that?”

“Yes,” I said. “Me. I’m the someone.”

If you can surprise your mom, you can impress your gift recipients.

Melt the white almond bark according to the package.

Generally, you want to microwave it for a minute, stir, then microwave it at 30 second intervals until it is melted completely.

Stir the peanut butter into the melted almond bark.

Crush in four Oreo cookies. Stir completely.

Melt the semi sweet chocolate chips.

The easiest way is the same way you melted the almond bark. Microwave it for one minute, stir, then microwave it at 30 second intervals until it is melted completely.

Use an icing knife to swirl the two mixtures together.

Pay careful attention to keep moving the icing knife using large swoops, going from side to side. Don’t stir the mixtures together or you’ll end up with a completely dark bark. You want to be able to see both colors.

Take the last two Oreos and put them in a plastic sandwich bag. Crush them completely using a rolling pan to make an Oreo dust.

Sprinkle the Oreo dust over the top of the chocolate bark.

Put the entire baking pan in the fridge for at least two hours until it completely hardens.

Take the pan out of the fridge and cut it into pieces. You can cut them straight or at an angle. It doesn’t matter. They don’t have to be uniformed pieces either. Cutting them haphazardly adds to the aesthetic of it.

Put the bark in an air tight container in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.

Oreo Chocolate Bark: Frequently Asked Questions

What size pan should you use to make Oreo Chocolate Bark?

This recipe fits perfectly in an 8×11-inch pan. That makes the candy bark between 1/4- and 1/2-inch thick (depending on if you’re measuring just the melted chocolate or if you are measuring the cookie pieces as well).

A bark of that thickness can sit out at room temperature without melting. Anything thinner will start to melt at room temperature and needs to be kept in the fridge.

So if you want, you can use a larger pan and make this Oreo candy bark thinner, but we wouldn’t recommend it.

Can you use a different cookie?

If for some reason you don’t like Oreo cookies, well, I get it. They’re not my favorite. But in this, they work really, really well. And you don’t really get an Oreo taste from it. You just get the texture and added sweetness.

But, if you wanted, you could use a different cookie, like a store-bought chocolate chip cookie. The “chewy” cookies won’t really work in this, though. You want the harder ones to give that nice bite to contrast the the softness of the chocolate.

You could use a vanilla wafer too, but the cookie dust on top wouldn’t look as pretty.
But, the best alternative in my option, would be a Thin Mint (or something similar, if it’s not Girl Scout cookie season).

How do you store Oreo Chocolate Bark?

After you make the Oreo Chocolate Bark and cut it into bite-sized pieces, put it in an airtight container in the fridge, especially if you are making this in a warm weather month. This will keep in the fridge for two to three weeks.

If you need to freeze this, it’s possible but not practical. The pieces will eventually freeze together in a big clump, so you won’t be able to eat this in pieces if you freeze it. If you don’t care about that, you can keep it in the freezer for two to three months. Let it defrost before eating it.

Can you use candy melts to make Oreo candy bark?

Candy melts are very forgiving. If you’re using them and they harden, you can easily remelt them. But, they’re not chocolate, don’t taste like chocolate, and honestly don’t taste very great.

To add a little pop of color into recipes, candy melts work fine. But in a recipe that’s half white chocolate, I wouldn’t use white candy melts.

Almond bark is as forgiving as candy melts, if it hardens, and tastes a lot better.
You could use white chocolate chips instead of almond bark, but they don’t melt as well, so you could end up burning the white chocolate chips.
