I’m really excited about Halloween this year. I usually just let the holiday pass by without any hoopla. This year, though, we’re going to Comic Con the weekend before Halloween, so I think that has just gotten me stoked about the holiday. So much so that I made this 3 Ingredient Halloween Popcorn recipe the other day.
I brought it with us to our clubhouse’s biweekly potluck and it was a big hit.
It was really easy to make, too, so you can make a ton of it for your next Halloween party. Or just to have while you are watching Halloween movies this year.
This is one of our favorite Halloween-themed treats, but it’s not our only one. Be sure to check out all our Halloween treats so you can have a full array of treats for Halloween night.
3 Ingredient Halloween Popcorn Recipe
This recipe doesn’t have exact measurement because you’ll want to vary the ingredients based on how much you want to make. Of course, if you realize you didn’t microwave enough candy melts, you can always melt more. Or, if you melted too much, you can wait for them to harden and save them for another day.

How To Make 3 Ingredient Halloween Popcorn:
Put your popped popcorn in a large bowl.
Melt the orange candy melts according to the package.
If you’ve never used candy melts before, check out our Tips For Using Candy Melts post for a little help.
But, real quick, the easiest way to do it is to put the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt them for one minute, then stir the candy melts. Melt for an additional 30 seconds, then stir. Continue until the orange candy melts are completely melted.
Fill a ziptop plastic bag with half the melted candy melts, and cut off the tip. Squeeze the bag and coat the popcorn with the melted candy melts.
Small aside: If you have a pastry bag, you can use that instead. Since most people don’t have one, a ziptop plastic bag is a frugal option.
Stir the popcorn with a spoon to coat all the popcorn with the melted candy melts. Continue until all the popcorn is coated.
Melt the chocolate chips.
Following the same method as the orange candy melts, melt them for a minute in the microwave, stir, and then melt for 30 second intervals if necessary.
Put the melted chocolate chips into a different ziptop plastic bag. Cut off the tip of the bag, then cover the popcorn in the melted chocolate.
Stir the popcorn with a spoon to make sure the plain popcorn comes to the top and gets covered in chocolate. Continue until the popcorn is completely covered.
Spoon the remaining melted orange candy melts into the first ziptop plastic bag. Cover the entire batch of popcorn with the rest of the orange candy.
Cool the popcorn in the fridge for about 20 minutes until the chocolate and candy melts are completely cooled.
When you take the popcorn out of the fridge, break it apart into large chunks before serving.
Halloween Popcorn Variations:
This is a pretty basic Halloween popcorn. But you can definitely change it up.
Candied Halloween Popcorn
Make the Halloween popcorn as is.
After you add the second half of the orange candy melts, stir Reese’s pieces into the Halloween popcorn to add a pop of black and orange candied pieces to the Halloween treat.
Candy Corn Halloween Popcorn
Skip the chocolate chips and use vanilla almond bark, yellow candy melts, and orange candy melts instead. Alternate pouring those over the popcorn. Stir them very gently so that each color is still defined and noticeable.
Then, add candy corn pieces into the popcorn.
Monster Mash Halloween Popcorn
Ditch the chocolate chips and orange candy melts and use green or purple candy melts instead. Use enough to completely coat the popcorn. Then, gently lay candy eyeballs on the top layer of the popcorn.
You don’t want to stir those in because they’ll get coated by the colored candy melts and you won’t be able to see the eyeballs.
Sprinkled Halloween Popcorn
Pick up Halloween sprinkles. After you’ve added the second half of the orange candy melts, sprinkle the sprinkles over the popcorn. Stir to get the sprinkles onto as much of the popcorn as you can.
3 Ingredient Halloween Popcorn: Frequently Asked Questions
We love popping our own popcorn. It’s super easy to make and we like it a lot better than bagged popcorn.
But, use what you have. If you have popping corn, microwave popcorn, or bagged popcorn, just go with that. Any of would work in this recipe.
Just keep in mind that those different popcorns have different flavoring. Popping corn is plain, microwave popcorn has lots of butter flavoring, and bagged popcorn is somewhere in between. So, you may have to add a pinch of salt or use a varying amount of chocolate to get the flavoring you want.
Technically, leftover popcorn can be stored in an airtight container.
But, here’s the thing with that. Leftover popcorn isn’t very great. It gets soggy quickly. And Halloween popcorn, which is covered in chocolate and candy bark, doesn’t really work when it’s soggy.
So sure, you can store leftover Halloween popcorn in an airtight container for a day or two (but pretty much just overnight). Your best bet realistically, though, is to only make as much as you’ll consume in one sittinng.
