I’m a fan of finger food. If we’re having a party, I just want to make food that everyone can just grab and pop in their mouth. Like these Wonton Pizza Cups.
I don’t want people to have to grab a plate and sit down. Our parties are so informal that I want people to grab a bite and keep it moving.

These wonton pizza cups use pepperoni, but you can skip that if you want.
Wonton Pizza Cups Ingredients:
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 6 oz. block mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 72 pepperoni minis
- Fresh dried herbs
How To Make Wonton Pizza Cups:
Pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
Start with two 12-count non-stick muffin pans.
Side note: If you don’t have non-stick muffin pans, you can add a little butter to the cavities so the wontons come out easier after cooking. If you’re using a non-stick muffin pan, you can skip this.
Stick a wonton wrapper into each cavity to form the wonton cups.
Rough chop the mozzarella cheese. Tiny cubes are the best shape.
Split the cheese into two piles. Use one pile to put some of the cheese cubes at the bottom of the wonton cups.
Top with a teaspoon of sauce per wonton cup.
Top the with the rest of the cheese.
Place three pepperoni minis on top of each wonton cup.
Bake for 18 minutes until the wonton cups are browned and the cheese is melted.
When you take the pizza cups out of the oven, sprinkle them with fresh dried herbs (oregano and parsley are great).
Serve warm with an optional side of marinara sauce for dipping.
If you only have one 12-count muffin tray, you can split these into two batches. The second batch may cook quicker than the first, so be sure to check it around the 15 minute mark.
Wonton Pizza Cups variations
You could top these wonton pizza cups with a variety of toppings.
If you want something classic, top them with fresh tomatoes before cooking then fresh chopped basil when they come out.
For meat-lovers, you could cook up some ground sausage and chopped pepperoni, then use that as a topping.
For vegetarians, cooked spinach would be a great addition.
If you’re cooking for keto-lovers, go with a cooked bacon.
For a tomato-free option, whip up a batch of our kale pesto and use that instead of marinara sauce.
And if you’re on Weight Watchers, go with lots of vegetables and a fat-free ZeroPoint cheese.
These Wonton Pizza Cups are made with mini pepperoni as a topping, but you can just remove the pepperoni and they’re vegetarian.
I prefer cutting a block of mozzarella cheese into cubes when I’m making these or, really, any recipe where I needed cheese to melt (like in our Creamy Cheesy Brussels Sprouts With Bacon).
Shredded cheese is really convenient, but it’s also filled with preservatives that prevent it from clumping in the bag. Those preservatives stop shredded cheese from melting in the same way a block of cheese melts.
So, sure. In theory you can use shredded cheese. If that’s all you have in the house, don’t make a special trip to the store just for a block of cheese. Just keep in mind that shredded cheese may not melt as well and you may have to adjust your cooking time.
If you’re having a party, you know how much work it is to make a ton of one-bite appetizers. So it’s a lot easier to make some of them ahead of time.
I would stay away from making Wonton Pizza Cups ahead of time.
Wonton Pizza Cups are best served warm, fresh out of the oven.
When Wonton Pizza Cups sit, the insides get really cool and don’t taste as good. The wonton wrapper holds its integrity and stays crispy, but the middle isn’t as great.
So if you need to make appetizers ahead of time, make things like spinach and artichoke dip early and make these appetizers fresh.
If you need to store leftover Wonton Pizza Cups, keep them in an air tight container in the refrigerator for about a week.
When you’re putting them in a container, make sure that the container is tall enough that the tops of the wonton wrappers won’t break off when you close the container.
If you don’t finish the entire batch of wonton pizza cups, you can simply reheat them.
The easiest way to reheat Wonton Pizza Cups is putting them in an air fryer at 370 for about three minutes.
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can reheat them in the oven. Set the oven to 350 and heat them for about 10 minutes until the cheese is remelted.
