Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF!) Burger Recipe

It looks like the burger subscription box BurgaBox is on hiatus. But you can still recreate the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF) Burger from BurgaBox with this recipe.

It was a Friday during Lent when a huge box of meat from BurgaBox arrived at our doorstep. BurgaBox was a burger subscription box, similar in a way to HelloFresh, that contained ingredients for burgers, plus already prepared macaroni and cheese, fries, coleslaw, and baked beans for four.

We had to wait to eat them, since there’s no meat for us on Fridays during Lent. When we did finally make the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF!) burgers and had them for dinner with my parents … and then had leftovers for lunch.

The recipe was over the top and indulgent, sure, but it was also delicious.

Our toppings were (okay, are you ready for this?): macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, an onion ring, pickles, and BBQ sauce. For a minute it seems like a lot, and when you get all that on top of your burger, it also looks like a lot. But when you take a bite, everything goes together to give a bite of the most perfect burger.

What happened to BurgaBox?

I’m not really sure what happened to BurgaBox. BurgaBox is on an indefinite hiatus and has been, as far as I can tell, since December 2017. The last actual Facebook post was December 4, there was a cover image change after, and the brand’s pinned post is filled with comments about people looking for answers and for their December 2017.

So getting this burger box anytime soon seems like an impossibility. The website says “We’ll Be Back Soon!” so I wouldn’t say BurgaBox closed, but I also won’t wait for the site to reopen before I eat another indulgent burger.

So, we decided to recreate the burger recipe that came in our box. The ingredients list and instructions are new and updated; the photos are back from April 2017 when we received the WTF Burger for review from BurgaBox.

How To Make A Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF!) Burger:

Heat up your charcoal grill and grill your burgers.

If you want, you can cook your burgers in a pan. That’s a good method to cook the burger in its own fat and juices, filling it with flavor. But, it’s basically summer here. And in the summer, you can’t beat a burger from the grill.

Oh, we put the buns on the grill too. But, I mean, a burger in summer. It’s basically sac-relig to not, right?

While your burger is grilling, cook your toppings.

Heat up your pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, and onion rings in your oven until they are warm. Using pre-cooked and leftover pulled pork and macaroni and cheese is best for this because cooking them from scratch for this recipe makes for a lot of work.

Then, start building your burger. Put the burger on the bottom bun, followed by the macaroni and cheese, the pulled pork, the onion ring, the pickles, and a healthy drizzle of BBQ sauce. Finish it with the top bun.

Now, let’s chat about multitasking for a minute. If you want to replicate the entire original BurgaBox, you’re going to want to serve this with baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and French fries. Each one has a different cooking time and temperature, so you have to do a little bit of juggling and time management to make sure everything comes out of the oven warm.

With the four pack, we got four burgers and all the toppings, plus Buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese, and garlic Parmesan fries. The macaroni and cheese was amazing. I have a mac and cheese obsession, and this definitely filled my need. There were huge slices of chicken, plus a great amount of bleu cheese crumbles on it, plus shredded cheddar cheese. I actually ate the leftovers for dinner the next two nights.

We had leftovers of the burgers too, mostly because my mom and I decided to split one.

The fries were so good — but no leftovers. Sad. It came with a canister of the topping, which I could have eaten by the spoonful. If I could buy just that and lather it top on everything I make for the rest of my life, I would be a happy girl.

If I was just making this for dinner, not recreating the BurgaBox, I would actually make the burger as is but serve it with homemade waffle fries or broccoli salad. That’s it. The buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese was amazing, but it’s more of it’s own dinner than a side for a burger.

LOL BurgaBoxx should re-brand itself as "The Last Supper" ... there's enough fat, carbs and cholesterol in that thing to do you in! It'd take me 2 days to eat it ^_^
