How To Make Shamrock Pretzels:

Break some of the pretzels into pieces so you can use them as stems. Set them aside.

Melt the candy melts according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to pour the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for one minute. Then, take them out and stir them.

Put them back in for another 30 seconds and stir. Continue this at 30-second intervals until the candy melts are completely melted.

Dip a whole pretzel twist into the melted candy melts.

Flip the pretzel over so both sides are coated.

Pick the pretzel up with a fork and allow the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

This is the part where patience comes in. The more that drips off, the cuter they will be and the easier the clean up will be. If you try to move them too soon, you’ll end up with a trail of green candy coating from your bowl to your cookie sheet. And that’s a pain to clean up.

Set the pretzel on a cookie sheet topped with a silicone baking mat.

Do this with another pretzel and set it to the left of the first pretzel, just barely touching.

Do this with a third pretzel and set it across from the second pretzel, forming the shape of a shamrock.

Dip one of the pretzel pieces into the green candy melts. Set it between the three full pretzels to act as a stem.

Some of the candy melt may splatter or bleed when you put the pretzels down. That’s okay. Don’t worry about it now.

Continue with the remaining pretzels.

Let the shamrock pretzels harden completely.

You can either let them cool on the counter at room temperature or in the fridge. Either way is fine.

When the melted candy coating has hardened completely, use an icing knife (because it’s flexible) to cut any excess candy melt away from the pretzels. This will define the shamrock shape better.

Store the Shamrock Pretzels in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve them.

Shamrock Pretzels: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to use a silicone baking mat?

I’m a huge fan of our silicone baking mat. I use it all the time for everything. I use it for everything from chocolate-covered treats, like our chocolate-covered Oreo cookies, to French fries. It just makes clean up so easy.

The candy melts don’t get stuck to the silicone baking mat when they cool, so you can easily pop these St. Patrick’s Day pretzels off with ease.

If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, you should buy one.

But, if you don’t have one right now but you want to make these pretzels for St. Patrick’s Day, you can use wax paper or parchment paper to line your cookie sheet instead. The candy melts won’t get stuck to the parchment paper.

The biggest reason for a baking mat instead of parchment is that a baking mat is reusable. So it’s more eco-friendly, but it’s also more frugal. And we’re all about saving that dollar.

How can you store Shamrock Pretzels?

Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. If you need them to last longer, you can put them in the fridge. Since the entire pretzel is covered in candy melts, they’ll last a while and won’t get soggy too quickly.

Can you make these into a four leaf clover?

You can sure try. Personally, I couldn’t really maneuver the pretzel twists to fit in a way that looked like a four leaf clover.

Can you use vanilla almond bark in this recipe?

If you’ve been around here a while, you know I usually use almond bark in my chocolate-covered recipes because I like the taste of it better than candy melts. But, almond bark won’t easily work in this recipe.

For starters, almond bark only comes in two colors: white (vanilla) or brown (chocolate). There’s no such thing as green almond bark. In order to make it green, you’d have to add a gel-based food coloring. Traditional food coloring will cause the almond bark to cease and almost immediately harden. So that won’t work in this recipe.
