The Mardi Gras colors are green, gold, and purple and each has its own meaning. Green represents faith; gold represents power; and purple represents justice.

So if you’re making any Mardi Gras decorations or desserts, you’ll want to incorporate those three colors into them.

Of course, adding gold is a little difficult, so in this Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies recipe, we use yellow. It’s close, and for our purposes, close enough.

How To Make Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies:

White vanilla almond bark melted in a bowl.

Melt the vanilla almond bark according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to put it in a microwave safe bowl for one minute. Take it out and stir. Then, heat it for another 30 seconds and stir. Continue this at 30 second intervals until the vanilla almond bark is melted completely.

Put an Oreo cookie in the melted vanilla almond bark. Submerge the cookie completely.

Use a fork to remove the Oreo cookie from the melted vanilla almond bark. Shake the fork a little to remove any excess almond bark.

Set the Oreo cookie on a silicone baking mat-lined cookie sheet to cool.

Continue until you’ve finished all the Oreo cookies.

If you work slowly and the vanilla almond bark starts to harden before you’re done, you can put it back in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds and it will melt again.

Once the vanilla candy bark has hardened on all the Oreo cookies, pick them up and move them so they’re all touching. This will make it easier to pipe the green, purple, and yellow across the cookies. You’ll be able to pipe them all at once instead of needing to do each one individually.

Again, carefully and quickly pipe purple lines across the Oreo cookies. Turning the tray means that your purple lines are going in a different direction than your green lines.

Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use white chocolate chips to coat the Oreo cookies?

Vanilla almond bark is amazing to work with in this Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies recipe because it makes dipping the Oreo cookies really easy.

See, vanilla almond bark is really forgiving. You can’t really burn it. And if it hardens while you’re still using it, you can just put it back in the microwave and reheat it. It’ll melt exactly as it did the first time.

White chocolate chips, or just chocolate chips in general, aren’t that forgiving. They’re really easy to burn in the microwave. And if they harden before you’re done with them, you can’t reheat them. They’ll either burn or the chocolate will cease and harden (or both) and you’ll have to throw the leftover chips in the trash.

So vanilla almond bark is definitely the way to go.

But, if all you have access to are white chocolate chips, you can use them. Just be very careful when you do.

Do you have to use Oreo cookies?

The name of this recipe has the word “Oreo” in it, so if you want to make this exact recipe, you need to use Oreo cookies.

But, if you have a different cookie that you’d rather use instead, go ahead and experiment with that one. It’s sure to turn out delicious.

Do you have to lay the cookies on a silicone baking mat?

I can’t say enough good things about our silicone baking mat. I use it all the time. In this recipe, it’s really helpful because the chocolate dipped Oreos just pop right off when the almond bark is hardened. You don’t have to worry about the cookies getting stuck to the cookie sheet, which can happen if you don’t use the baking mat.

If you don’t have one, you could lay parchment paper down on a cookie sheet instead. The Oreo cookies will pop right off there as well.

One of the big reasons we use the silicone baking mat over parchment paper is that the baking mat is reusable and parchment paper is disposable. So, to save a little money and to be more earth conscious, we prefer the silicone baking mat.

How do you store Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies?

Keep Mardi Gras Oreo Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about two weeks. You don’t need to refrigerate them. If you do refrigerate chocolate covered cookies, they’ll last about four weeks.
