Three crazy straws, in yellow, green, and red, with tags that are an image of a red cup on them with the words "DIY Valentine's Day Crazy Straws Gift" digitally written on top.

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays because it’s focused on chocolate. And love. And if you know me, I love chocolate. And love. So it’s perfect.

But, when I’m putting together gifts for the littles we know, I try to avoid filling them with chocolate. That’s what I would want, but I really don’t want to fill them with sugar. So, the perfect way to do this is to add little toys or Valentine’s Day books to my gift.

That’s where this DIY Valentine’s Day Crazy Straws Gift came from.

When I was a little kid, I absolutely loved silly straws. They made drinking out of glasses so much fun. So of course, I love giving them out as an adult. With these, I add cute Valentine cards to them, in the form of a little tag with a Valentine’s Day drink on it.

To make your life so much easier, I added the free printable at the end of the post so you don’t have to design your own. You just have to print mine.

How To Make A Valentine’s Day Crazy Straws Gift:

Scissors cutting a piece of paper.

Start by printing out the printable below.

Cut out each individual tag.

If you’re making these for class valentines, you can leave a little extra paper at the bottom of the card when you’re cutting so your child’s name can fit there.

A single hole punch punching a hole in a red cartoon cup.

Use the hole punch to punch a hole on the side of the tag. You want the hole to be positioned in the foam of the drink so it looks like an actual straw sticking out.

Quick note: If you don’t have a single hole punch, you can either use a triple hole punch and just position this in a way to punch one hole or you can use a pair of scissors to cut a hole for the straw to fit through.

Stick the top of the crazy straw through the hole, stopping where the twists of the straw starts.

Put a little piece of tape in the back to hold the tag in place.

Keep going until you’ve made enough for all your kids or the entire class, whoever you’re making this for.

Free Valentine’s Day Crazy Straws Printable

To make your life so much easier, we already made the Valentine’s Day tag for you.

Quick note: These are for your personal use only. We don’t allow downloading for commercial use.

The good news for you is that you don’t have to make it. The bad news is that it says “Have And Ex-Straw Special Valentine’s Day” on it and that pun is all it’s gonna say because the tag isn’t editable.

The digital file is a PDF formatted to fit an 8.5- x 11-inch piece of paper, which is standard printer paper size.

Right click the link below, then save it however you typically save PDF files, then print it at home when you’re ready to use it.

Each print has nine tags. So, if you’re making these for classroom exchanges, take your total number of kids and divide that by nine, and that’s how many you need to print.

When you print, go into your print settings and choose “fit to page” and full color so none of the graphics get cut off. Also, if you want to make the tags a little more sturdy, you can print onto card stock instead of regular paper. But, if all you have is plain white paper, that works too.

DIY Valentine’s Day Crazy Straws Gift: Frequently Asked Questions

What crazy straws work best in this craft?

Any reusable drinking straws work for this gift. The plastic straws with the twists are a little thinner than the plastic straws with the top part that stretches, so these will fit in a hole punches hole better than those.

Don’t use paper straws. First, those are my nemesis and I don’t understand the point of them because they fall apart so quickly. And second, since they fall apart easily, they’re not really much of a gift.

Can you change the color of the tag?

The tags I made aren’t editable. So you’re stuck with the color version it prints as. If you know anything about graphic arts and can edit these, you have my permission to change it to different colors as long as you’re using them for personal use.

More Non-Candy Valentine’s Day Ideas:

I love candy, but I don’t always want to give a ton of it for Valentine’s Day. Kids are gonna get enough candy. They don’t need more from me.
