When Pete and I first started dating and I would visit him at his apartment, he would always show off his barista skills and make me fancy coffee drinks. It was really nice and special. So now, whenever we make fancy coffee at home, it always reminds me of that time.
Sure, we could go out to a coffee shop and just buy fancy drinks. And we’ll do that, especially if we’re on vacation. But, with the way prices are right now, it’s way more frugal to make coffee at home.
Making it at home doesn’t mean you’re stuck with plain, black coffee. You can make fun coffee drinks at home. And go ahead and turn that into an experience.
We have these cute, etched glasses that we serve most of our at-home-fancy drinks in, which just makes the drinks feel a little more special.
So, if you want to make coffee at home and need some inspiration of more than just plain hot coffee, check out this list of Fun Coffee Drinks you can make at home.
This list is filled with delicious ways to make fancy coffee at home. But, if you’re traveling and want to make a fun drink at a hotel, check out our post with How To Make The Perfect Mocha … In A Hotel.

Super Simple Cold Brew Coffee
Cold brew was the new craze a few years ago. It’s a delicious coffee option, so it’s easy to see why it got so popular so quickly. But, you can easily make it at home.
Put ground, regular coffee in a filter in the center of a cold brew pitcher, then pour cold water on top. Let it sit overnight, then remove the filter with the coffee grounds.
You end up with a really sweet but strong coffee that doesn’t need any sweetener. However, topping it with a dollop of cold foam takes it over the top. The frothy foam on top of the cold coffee makes it really feel like a fancy coffeehouse drink.
Quick note: Don’t use a French press to make cold brew. You’ll end up with a bitter drink. You really do need to use a cold brew pitcher for this.
Spiked Mocha Nut Coffee
If you’re over 21 and you want a little coffee for dessert — with a kick — try this Spiked Mocha Nut Coffee.
Disaronno (a hazelnut liquor) is added to brewed, drip coffee, along with whole milk and powdered hot chocolate mix. Stir together and enjoy. But, if you wanna make it fancy, you can add whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top.
This is a good drink to serve at the end of a dinner party because Disaronno is a classic Italian digestif. Serve it with some classic coffee cake. Of course, this drink is only for adults. For the kids, you can add a hazelnut coffee syrup instead since kids, obviously, can’t have coffee cocktails.
Peppermint Mocha Latte
A peppermint mocha is the fancy drink Pete used to make for me all the time, so this one is really special to me.
This mocha uses espresso beans (not espresso powder). The ground coffee is brewed, then combined with milk and heavy cream, chocolate syrup, sugar, and peppermint extract to create a really delicious treat.
Also, quick note: We brew ground espresso in our standard coffee pot. We don’t use a fancy espresso machine.
Copycat Starbucks Frappuccino
Starbucks is known for its Frappuccino. You can get it in a ton of different delicious flavors. The only trouble is, they can get pretty expensive. So, a better way to enjoy them is by making our Copycat Starbucks Frappuccino.
You only need four ingredients to make this tasty treat: brewed coffee, white and brown sugar, and creamer. Our basic recipe uses French vanilla creamer, but you can change the creamer flavor or add coffee syrups to make different flavors.
Affogato
If you like coffee after dinner, but you want your coffee to be more of a dessert, an Affogato is for you.
Hot, brewed espresso is poured over vanilla gelato or vanilla ice cream to make a sweet, creamy drink that’s sure to satisfy your taste buds. This is really delicious, even if you’re not an espresso lover. But the strong coffee works better to balance the sweetness of the ice cream.
