An affogato is the perfect dessert drink. It combines espresso and gelato (but you can use ice cream, if that’s all you have at home).

Two years ago, Pete and I went to this amazing Italian restaurant for our second wedding anniversary. He’s Italian, so of course, he’s super particular. But he loved it. We got appetizers and a meal. At the end of the night, we knew we were getting coffee. No rush home on your anniversary date, right?
I wanted dessert too, but Pete was too full to split any cake with me.
So, I took another look at the menu and on it was an affogato. I had never had one before then, so I went ahead an ordered it.
It was amazing.
It’s gelato topped with espresso and is the perfect way to end a meal.

Affogato Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons espresso beans
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream or vanilla gelato
How To Make An Affogato:
Grind the espresso beans.
Make a cup of coffee with the espresso.
You can do this in a coffee machine, if that’s what you have. If you own a percolator, go with that. It adds something to the whole experience of this.
Scoop the vanilla ice cream or gelato into a glass.
Pour the hot espresso directly on top.
Serve immediately.
