We get invited to a lot of Christmas parties during the holiday season. Which means I’m always making fun treats to bring with me.

But, if you know me, you know I’m coming with these cute themed treats. That’s my thing. And since people are always expecting me to show up with a tray of something fun, I make it a point to make a bunch of different treats throughout the season.

That’s how I ended up making this Christmas Pretzels Wreaths recipe to bring to the Christmas party at our community’s clubhouse. These adorable wreaths were actually a last minute recipe because we weren’t sure if we would be able to make it to the party. I needed something with Christmas spirit that I could throw together quickly.

These chocolate wreaths did not disappoint. They were such a big hit. So big that I didn’t even have any leftovers after the party. So, if you’re making these for a group, maybe make more than you think you’ll need.

These would also be really cute as part of your homemade Christmas cookie platters too. They’d really stand out amongst all the baked goods.

These Christmas Pretzel Wreaths use candy melts. If you’ve never used those before, check out our Tips For Using Candy Melts before starting.

Christmas Pretzel Wreaths Ingredients:

How To Make Christmas Pretzel Wreaths:

Put a silicone baking mat on top of a baking sheet.

Green candy melts melted in a bowl.

Melt the green candy melts in a microwavable safe bowl.

If you’ve never used candy melts before, the easiest way to do this is to melt them for one minute, then stir. If they’re not completely melted, microwave for an additional 30 seconds, then stir again Continue at 30 second intervals until the candy melts are completely melted.

A hand dipping a pretzel into melted green chocolate.

Dip the rounded side of a pretzel twist into the green candy melts.

Four mini pretzel twists in a circle, with green melted chocolate in the middle.

Place the dipped pretzel onto the baking mat.

Dip another and place it next to the pretzel, making sure that the inner section (where the melted chocolate is) touches. Dip two more, arranging them in a circular shape.

Five mini pretzels in two layers with green melted chocolate in the middle.

While they’re still wet, you’re going to make a second layer of pretzels.

So, just like the bottom layer, you’re going to dip pretzels into the melted candy melts, then arrange them in a circular shape to form a top layer. Make sure to stagger them so they’re not lined up directly on top. This will make your edible wreaths look fuller.

Continue until you’ve made all 10 chocolate pretzel wreaths. You could leave them like this. They’re adorable. But Christmas wreaths aren’t really complete until they have a ribbon. So let’s make those.

Red candy melts in a bowl.

Add the red candy melts to a bowl and melt them like the green ones.

Spoon the melted red candy melts into a ziptop plastic bag with the corner cut off. This is a frugal way to make a piping bag. Of course, if you have an actual piping bag, you can use that instead.

All the candy melts to cool slightly because they’re much easier to pipe when they’re a little cooler.

Pipe a small red bow on each wreath.

Let the bow cool completely before serving.

Christmas Pretzel Wreaths: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to pipe a bow?

You absolutely don’t have to pipe a bow. I like it, but you can just omit it.

Or, alternatively, you can pour melted chocolate into this Mini Bows Silicone Mold. Then, put a dab of chocolate on the back and stick it to the bottom pretzels in the wreath.

Can you use a different type of chocolate?

Personally, I love using candy melts because they’re so forgiving. If they start to harden while you’re making these, you can just put them back in the microwave and melt them. You can’t do that with chocolate chips.

However, if you don’t love the taste of candy melts, you could use white almond bark or white chocolate chips. Just tint the melted white chocolate with green gel food coloring. You don’t want to use a water-based food coloring because it will cause the almond bark or chocolate chips to cease and you won’t be able to dip your mini pretzels in it.

If you don’t have gel food coloring, you could just keep the melted chocolate white and cover it with green sugar sprinkles.

Do you need to use a silicone baking mat?

I’m obsessed with my silicone baking mat. I use it for everything, especially candy making. Melted chocolate easily pops right off when its cooled.

I prefer a baking mat to parchment or wax paper because a silicone mat is reusable, so it’s more budget friendly. But, if you don’t have a baking mat, you could use a sheet of parchment paper instead.

How can you store the Christmas Pretzel Wreaths?

Store the pretzel wreaths in an airtight container at room temperature. They don’t need to be refrigerated.

Can I make these ahead of time?

You absolutely can. These will last about a week if stored properly, so you can make them when you have time, then serve them at your holiday gathering.
