Chocolate Football Pretzel Rods Ingredients:
How To Make Chocolate Covered Football Pretzels:
Melt the chocolate almond bark, in a tall glass, according to the package.
If you’ve never used almond bark before, the easiest way to use it is to cut a couple squares and put them in a microwave safe bowl (but, in this case, we are using a tall glass). Microwave for one minute, remove from the microwave and stir. If it’s not melted fully, put it back and microwave for an additional 30 seconds. Continue until the almond bark is melted completely.
Dip a pretzel rod into the melted almond bark, coating it about halfway. If you need to, use a spoon to help make sure the almond bark goes around evenly. Hold the chocolate covered pretzel over the tall glass and let any excess drip back into the cup.
Put it on a silicone baking mat-lined cookie sheet (if you don’t have a baking mat, use parchment paper to line the cookie sheet).
If you don’t let the excess drip off before placing it on the cookie sheet, the excess will bleed onto the baking mat and you’ll get pieces of chocolate hanging off of the pretzel.
Continue until you’ve finished all of the pretzels.
If your almond bark starts getting low, you can tilt your glass in order to coat the pretzel. If it’s getting too low even for that, you can melt more of it in the same glass.
Let them cool, then carefully move them next to each other so they’re touching.
Melt the vanilla almond bark according to the package.
Put it in a ziptop bag and cut a very small piece of the corner of the bag off (to make it a piping bag).
If you have a piping bag, by all means use that. But using a ziptop plastic bag instead is a frugal option for people who don’t have fancy equipment.
You’re going to pipe two long, thin, white row across all the pretzels. You’ll want to start the first about a quarter to a half inch from the top and the second about a quarter to a half inch from where the chocolate ends.
It’s much easier to pipe these all across the pretzels at once than to do each one individually.
Leaving space on either side, pipe a straight line of vanilla almond bark between the two lines that are already there.
Pipe six equally spaced perpendicular lines of white almond bark across those to create the laces of the football.
Let the vanilla almond bark cool before serving.
Chocolate Football Pretzel Rods: Frequently Asked Questions
If you store chocolate-dipped pretzel rods in an air tight container, they should last anywhere between two or three weeks (unless your family eats them all before then).
You can. These will last up to three weeks, if stored properly, so you can make them up to three weeks before serving.
They’ll last up to three weeks, so you can make them up to three weeks ahead of time.
You don’t need to refrigerate chocolate covered pretzels. You can store them on a counter, at room temperature, as long as they’re in an airtight container.
You can store chocolate covered pretzels in a Ziploc bag, but we don’t recommend it. A Ziploc bag will not prevent the pretzel rods from breaking.
Instead, store chocolate covered pretzels in an airtight, plastic container. You can store them on the counter that way.
Chocolate covered pretzels will not melt at room temperature.
Almond bark is a lot easier to use than chocolate chips. With chocolate chips, they can burn when you melt them. Almond bark is more forgiving. You can also reheat almond bark if it cools while you’re using it. You can’t do that with chocolate chips.
Personally, I also feel like almond bark adheres to the pretzel rods better than melted chocolate chips do.
