If I’m invited to your house for dinner, I will definitely be bringing a dessert with me. Part of that is because I always want something sweet after dinner, and part of that is because dessert extends the evening. And if we’re hanging out, I don’t want it to end.

In the summer, though, I don’t want a real heavy dessert. I want something that will satisfy that sweet craving, but I also want something that is light and fresh. That’s why fruit is the perfect summer dessert idea.

But let’s be honest. Bringing a bowl of fruit somewhere is a little boring. So, why not jazz it up and bring a patriotic fruit flag. It’s the perfect July 4th dessert too.

Line up the skewers with the blueberries on the left, followed by the blueberry-free skewers. Make sure the strawberries and bananas line up to create the stripes of your flag.

If you have any fruit left over, you can make a few more skewers or you can just serve it in a bowl.
