It’s getting cold here. That always happens this time of year. Right before my birthday, as I’m planning a cute outfit to wear to celebrate, bam. Cold, awful, no dress weather hits. So with my birthday being next week, it feels appropriate to think about snow ad these Wine Cork Stamp Snowmen.

I was making crafts with our friend’s 5 year old recently, and she’s the one who made the wine cork stamp snowmen. I told her what to do and let her have at it.

She had a good time and was definitely able to follow instructions. So if you want to make these with young children, go right ahead. They’ll really enjoy it. And you’ll enjoy that you won’t actually have to help them.

Wine Cork Stamp Snowmen

The best part about this craft is you probably have everything you need in your home right now. So you can suddenly decide to make this craft when your kids are getting a little antsy and need something to do.

Pour some of the white paint on a paper plate.

Dip one end of the wine cork into the white paint.

Stamp three circles, one on top of the other, using the wine cork stamp on your art paper. That’s the body of your snowman.

I had the girl I was crafting with paint three sets of three circles so she could decorate three snowmen.

Let those stamps dry completely.

Grab a brown marker and draw the arms of the snowman out from the middle circle.

Grab another colored marker.

Draw a hat on the head of the snowman. If you’re making more than one, each one having a different colored hat would be cute.

Grab a black marker (of course, all these colors are just suggestions). Draw boots at the bottom of the snowman.

Use that same black marker to draw the face and nose of each snowman (this is why you have to have completely dried white circles before you start with the markers).

If your children have a little more attention left, you can have them grab different colored markers and draw scarves too. But the girl I was crafting with was done.

For a little more pizzazz, you can take cotton balls and affix them to the bottom of the snowmen, where their feet are, with a little bit of glue. That way, it looks like they’re standing heaps of snow.

When you’re done with your wine cork stamp snowmen, cut them out from the art paper, then hang them on your wall.

What is art paper?

Art paper is, basically, a thicker drawing paper. Drawing paper is pretty thin and will tear if you erase too hard. And of course, you’re not erasing anything from these wine cork stamp snowmen, so you don’t have to worry about the paper tearing.

But you do want a thicker paper because if your child is heavy handed with the paint or markers, you run the risk of it bleeding through.

If you don’t have art paper, that’s fine. But don’t just grab a piece of white printer paper for this craft. The white paint won’t show up on the white paper very well, so you’ll end up with a floating hat and boots with arms, basically.

We don’t have kids, so I don’t stock up on art paper. If I’m making a craft, I trust myself to not draw through the paper or be heavy handed with paint. But, for times like these, when I’m crafting with a friend’s kid, I actually just pull out scrap paper.

I get a lot of boxes delivered here thanks to products for the blog, plus we order things online often too. Some of those packages come with bubble wrap inside and others come with nice, thick packing paper.

I always save that packing paper.

For starters, it’s good to have around when I want to mail something to someone. But, it’s also great for when I need it for crafting. I use that packing paper — which becomes scrap paper in my mind once I open that box — for crafts like these wine cork stamp snowmen. You can paint directly on it.

I also lay it down every time I am painting with little kids. I make sure they either sit on the paper and lean over it or sit on the very edge of it and lean over the paper the whole time they’re painting.

And, if I’m making a craft that needs to be spray painted, I’ll bring the packing paper outside and put my project directly on the scrap paper. That way, the spray paint gets onto the scrap paper instead of painting our grass.

Do you have to use washable paint?

I’ll be honest with you. I actually used white acrylic paint when we made these Wine Cork Stamp Snowmen. We don’t have kids, so I don’t have washable paint here.

So no, you don’t have to use washable paint.

Would I recommend using washable paint? If you’re making this with more than one kid, yes.

I was only making these with one girl, so I was able to supervise her the entire time. And I could make sure her sleeves were rolled up and not dangling into any of the wet paint.

She did actually get paint on her hands when we were making a craft before this (we made wine cork ghosts, but she was still bored after that so we made these wine cork stamp snowmen).

Acrylic paint washes off kid’s hands easily, and with a little scrubbing it comes out of clothes. But honestly, if I had it, I would have used washable paint. That adheres to paper just like acrylic paint, but not to anything else.
