We get invited to a holiday potluck every year, which I’ve dubbed the Super Secret Christmas Party. The guest list has to be limited because of the room where it’s held, so not everyone gets invited. So, like Fight Club, you can’t talk about it. Well, before you get there.

This year, I was tasked with bringing an Oreo dessert to the party. The host of the party loves dipped Oreo cookies, so I knew that’s what I was making.

But if you know me, you know I have to be extra all the time. I have to figure out the most adorable, fun way to bring a dessert. So instead of just plain chocolate dipped cookies, I turned them into Rudolph and Santa’s other reindeer.

These cookies were a huge hit, so definitely make these adorable cookies for your next (super secret or not) Christmas party.

If you want, you can just bring these adorable Reindeer Cookies by themselves to your holiday party. Or, they would be a great addition to your cookie platters this holiday season. For more cookie ideas, check out our list of The Best Christmas Cookies To Gift.

How To Make Reindeer Oreo Cookies:

A mini pretzel twist cut in half with pretzel dust around the pieces.

Use a sharp knife to cut the mini pretzel twists in half.

Then, cut off the curved part at the top to make the pretzels look like two antlers.

Quick note: There is a bit of a learning curve with this because the pretzels want to break from the pressure of being cut. So you don’t want to be forceful, but you need enough force to actually cut the pretzel.

Continue until you have enough antlers for all your cookies.

Three squares of chocolate almond bark in a bowl.

Melt the chocolate almond bark according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to cut the squares in half, then put them in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for one minute, then stir. Put the bowl back and microwave and stir at 30-second intervals until the chocolate is melted.

It should take 90 seconds total, but may take longer depending on your microwave.

Put the Oreo cookie in the melted chocolate.

Flip it to make sure it’s completely coated.

Pick the Oreo cookie up with a fork and gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to let any excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.

A dipped Oreo cookie on a silicone baking mat.

Place the Oreo cookie on a silicone baking mat-lined cookie sheet.

Quick note: If you don’t have a baking mat, parchment paper will work. However, I prefer a baking mat because it’s reusable. So it’s good for the environment and is budget friendly.

You want to put something down so the chocolate cookies pop right off after they’re cooled. They won’t pop off an unlined baking sheet.

Take the two pretzel antlers and place them in the top third of the cookie, leaving enough room for a reindeer face below it.

Place the two candy eye balls next to each other in the middle of the cookie.

Be really careful to place these where you want them. You don’t want to push them in and you don’t want to move them.

If you move the candy eyes around or push them down, they’ll dig into the chocolate and leave what looks like bags under their eyes.

Yes, delivering presents to all the good girls and boys of the world in one night is tiring, but you don’t want your reindeer cookies to look tired.

Drop one of the round candy balls as a nose between and below the two eyes.

Adding a black candy makes the reindeer Dasher and Dancer, Comet and … okay, you get the idea. A red nose makes them Rudolph.

What I do when I make these is use mostly black noses and then sparingly use the red nose so there are only a couple Rudolphs in the batch. But you can make these however you want.

Quick note: I got my nose sprinkles from a kit that seems to be out of stock. So, if you can’t find small candies in red and black, you could melt a little bit of red and black candy melts, then add each to a small piping bag and pipe noses instead.

Continue until you’re done with all the cookies, making sure to let them cool completely in a single layer on your baking sheet.

If the chocolate almond bark starts to get hard while you’re making these, you can pop the bowl back into the microwave for 15 seconds to reheat it and assure that you’re using warm, melted chocolate to coat the cookies.

Reindeer Oreo Cookies: Frequently Asked Questions

What Oreo cookies work best for dipped Oreos?

Any flavor of Oreo works in a dipped Oreo cookie. There are so many fun flavors out there now, so definitely pick whichever variant one you like best.

However, standard Oreo cookies work better than the Oreo Thins for dipped cookies. The ratio of Oreo to chocolate coating is better so you’re able to taste both. With an Oreo thin, the chocolate is overpowering and the cookie flavor gets lost.

The opposite argument is made for the double stuffed Oreo. In those cases, there’s too much cream and it overpowers the chocolate.

Can you use milk chocolate chips instead of chocolate almond bark?

Chocolate almond bark, which you can find in the baking section of your local grocery store, is nearly impossible to over melt. If you keep it in the microwave too long, the bowl will get very hot but the chocolate won’t burn. It’s really easy to overheat chocolate chips and burn them.

If almond bark cools and gets hard, you can just remelt it in the microwave. If melted chocolate chips get hard after you melt them, that’s it. They’re done. You can’t heat them again.

You could use candy coating wafers (known as Candy Melts) because melted candy melts work like melted almond bark, in that you can reheat it. But I think chocolate almond bark tastes way better than those. And you want a tasty coating since you’re eating so much of it.

How can you store leftover Oreo Reindeer Cookies?

Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container. You can store the Reindeer Oreos at room temperature for at least a week or two.

Since they last so long, these cookies are a great way to get some of your holiday baking out of the way before Christmas, making your life so much easier.
