I love the taste of jalapeño poppers. The spiciness of the peppers with the cooling cream cheese is a great combination.
But eating them is a different story. The fact that you’re just expected to stick a full pepper in your mouth while trying to make small talk at a party is a little ridiculous. I think a lot of people feel the same way.
That’s why jalapeño poppers wonton cups are easier. They have the classic flavors of a jalapeño popper, but they’re a lot cuter, and much easier to eat at a party.

Jalapeño Popper Wonton Cups: Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve made these jalapeño popper wonton cups recipe using canned jalapeño peppers before. A 4 oz. can of jalapeño peppers will replace the fresh jalapeños in this recipe.
Bagged cheese has preservatives that keep it from clumping together. That’s good for when you want shredded cheese. But, it’s not great when you want melted cheese because those preservatives prevent the cheese from really melting.
So, in this case, you want to buy a block of pepper jack cheese and shred it yourself.
If you can only find bagged cheese, that’s fine. It’ll work. Just keep in mind that 4 oz. of hard cheese is equal to 8 oz. of shredded cheese, so you’ll need to add more if you don’t shred it yourself.
Pepper jack is a spicy monterey jack cheese, so it gives the filling a little extra kick.
If you don’t want a real spicy filling, you could use cheddar cheese or just monterey jack cheese instead.
These are vegetarian as is. I always try to have a vegetarian game day snack or two if we’re having guests.
If you don’t need them to be vegetarian, you can add bacon to these. Cook six pieces of bacon. Crumble six of them into the creamy cheese mixture. Then, reserve the last piece to crumble on top of the crispy wonton cups after the come out of the oven.
If you don’t feel like making bacon to get the crispy bacon bits to add to the filling, you could use a bag of real bacon bits instead. When you’re deciding on how much to add, just measure with your heart.
Wait until the wonton cups have cooled to room temperature. Then, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for about three days.
You can absolutely make the filling for these ahead of time and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Don’t bake the wonton wrappers until you’re ready to serve them. They’ll get soggy in the fridge and won’t be as great as if you made them fresh.
Heat them on a baking sheet at 350 F for about 15 minutes. This will crisp up the wonton wrapper. You could also heat them in the air fryer at 370 F for about five minutes until you have a crispy wonton shell.
Wonton wrappers will be in the produce section of your local grocery stores near where the tofu is located.
