Officially, Seussville is Dr. Seuss’ website with fun and educational content. So, if someone asks where is Seussville? The answer is online. Or in Islands of Adventure, the theme park in Orlando that houses Seuss Landing. But, for our purposes, Seussville is your house and this Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign will lead people to your Dr. Seuss party.
Or, maybe it won’t. Because the arrows point everywhere, so Seussville can be anywhere.
I was going to say something corny like, “But, really, Seussville lives in your heart.” Which I guess I just did. But because I gave you that lead up, you know I’m saying in tongue and cheek.
Anyway.
If you’re throwing a Dr. Seuss themed party, this Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign tutorial will help you make the perfect sign to put in your front yard so people know where the party is. It’s a lot more fun than just putting up some balloons, which is what most people do to designate the party house.
That’s what my cousin did for the Dr. Seuss-themed retirement party she threw her mom.
Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign Tutorial
This tutorial will teach you how to make a Dr. Seuss Seussville sign. If you would rather buy one online, there’s information about how to do that below.
Wrap a white tablecloth around the flagpole. Secure it with tape.
Trace the yellow arrow three times onto a piece of cardboard.
Keep the yellow arrow as is. Paint the other three arrows red, green, and blue.
One layer of paint should be enough of each, but if you want a deeper color, you can paint a second coat. Just keep in mind that cardboard will really absorb the moisture of the paint and the signs may warp if you use too many layers of paint.
If you do paint two layers, paint one coat from left to right, let it dry, then paint the next coat from top to bottom. It’ll help hide any potential streak marks left behind by the paint brush.
Once the arrows are dry, use the black paint to paint a border around each one. You don’t need these lines to be perfect because Dr. Seuss lines are not perfect.
When the arrows have dried completely, tape the Dr. Seuss letters to each sign to spell out the following:
Seussville
To Here
To There
To Anywhere
Again, it doesn’t have to be perfect. You want it to look uneven to fit with Dr. Seuss’ brand of whimsy.
Use scissors to make two small holes in the middle of each sign.
Lace a zip tie through to attach the signs to your post. Cut off any excess zip tie in the back or just leave it as is.
If you’re lucky, your pack of zip ties will have a yellow, red, green, and blue. If it does, use the color of zip tie that coordinates with each color of arrow so that the zip tie blends in with the arrow.
But, if you don’t have matching zip ties, you can paint them after they’re attached to the sign.
Take the Dr. Seuss hat prop and tape it to the top of the pole.
Stick the pole in the flagpole base to display it.
Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign: Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to use a flagpole to make the Seussville Sign?
This tutorial uses a flagpole to make the Seussville Sign because that’s what my cousin had handy. It also uses a flagpole because it’s really convenient. You can stick the flagpole back in its base to display it.
If you don’t have a flagpole handy, you can use a wooden dowel, PVC pipe, or really any long cylindrical pole you can find. The process will be the same. The only real difference will come when you’re trying to stick the sign into the ground.
You can dig a hole and stick the sign into it. Bury it far enough and it will stay down. If you have a flower pot with dirt in it (and, hopefully no live flowers), you could stick it in there as well.
And finally, you could just lean it against your house and not stick it anywhere.
Dr. Seuss’ fonts are a little less distinguishable than, say, Disney’s font, but you know it when you see it.
If you can freehand it, go right ahead and freehand the letters on the arrows for this Seussville sign.
Can you reuse the Dr. Seuss Seussville sign?
Of course. Just disassemble it carefully.
Cut the zip ties, unlace them from the arrows, and remove the Cat In The Hat hat from the top. Store the arrows and hat in a dry space so they don’t get wet and warped.
You can either keep the pole wrapped in the tablecloth or remove it and just purchase another tablecloth next time you want to set this up.
Purchase a Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign:
If you don’t want to make this Seussville Sign, you can order something similar online at the following stores:
Be careful when you’re reading the listing before you order a Dr. Seuss Seussville Sign online.
Some listings will be full complete signs and some will only be for the directionals (the arrows). With the latter, you still have to figure out where to affix the directionals and how to hang the sign.
