I love making fudge. It’s something my mom made as part of her holiday baking every Christmas because it’s so easy and it’s a crowd pleaser. Everyone was a fan (and honestly, I would sneak pieces of her fudge before it made it onto cookie platters).
She stuck to making it for Christmas only, but it’s such a fun holiday treat for every holiday. This Candy Cane Fudge works for Christmas or Valentine’s Day (which is why we’re posting it today).
This is made using the Internet famous 2 Ingredient Fudge method (which is what my mom used in the pre-Internet days). Yes, this recipe does have four ingredients, but the base of it is the two ingredient method.
What’s really great about this homemade fudge, besides its simple ingredients, is that you make it in the microwave. So you don’t have to have any special tools like a double boiler or a candy thermometer. All you need is a bowl, a microwave, and a spoon.
And that, technically, makes it a no bake treat too.
This pink fudge is perfect for Valentine’s Day. For more Valentine’s Day holiday treats, check out our Easy To Make Valentine’s Day Crafts & Treats.

Candy Cane Fudge Ingredients:
- 3 cups white chocolate chips
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 3 peppermint candy canes
- 4 drops red food coloring
How To Make Candy Cane Fudge:
Put the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave the mixture for a minute until the chocolate chips are melted. If you need, add an extra 30 seconds, then stir, and keep repeating at 30 second intervals until the chips are completely melted.
Crush the candy canes.
The easy way to do this is to put the candy canes in a plastic bag and smash the candy canes with a rolling pin until you end up with small pieces.
Add most of the the candy cane pieces into the white chocolate mixture. Add the food coloring and gently stir.
You want a swirl of colors, so don’t stir it completely. If you do, you’ll end up with a completely pink fudge instead of a marbled look.
Side note: If you don’t care about having a pink fudge and are fine with a white fudge, just skip the food coloring. It’s just for aesthetics, nothing else.
Pour the fudge mixture into an 8- x 8-inch square pan that’s lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Put the reserved crushed candy canes on top of the fudge. Gently push them down.
Put the entire tray in the fridge for at least two hours until the fudge is hardened.
Take the parchment out of the tray, put it on a cutting board, and use a sharp knife to cut the fudge into pieces.
Candy Cane Fudge: Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re making these for Christmas, it’s easy to find peppermint candy canes in any grocery or drugstore during that time of year. But, if you’re making these outside of the holiday season, it’s a little harder.
Instead, you can just purchase peppermint candies and use those instead. You can also purchase bags of crushed peppermint candy online as well.
Store any leftover fudge in an airtight container. If you put parchment paper between the layers, it’ll keep the piece of fudge from sticking to each other.
The fudge will last about a week or two in the fridge. You can store it at room temperature, but we don’t recommend it. This can cause the fudge to get really soft and the candy cane to get really sticky.
If you need it to last longer, you could freeze this fudge. Wrap it in parchment paper, then foil or plastic wrap, then put it in a covered container. I’ll keep for months that way. Just let it thaw before consuming.
When I make candy bark or candy coated cookies, I usually use almond bark. It’s easier to work with in those instances.
But, when I’m making fudge, I always use chocolate chips. I’ve honestly never tried to use almond bark, so if you do, let me know how it works.
If you’d prefer, you can use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips instead of white chocolate chips to give these a different flavor. In that case, though, you’d skip the red food coloring and this fudge would be brown, not pink. So it would be the perfect treat for Christmas, but maybe not for Valentine’s Day.
I think these easy candy cane fudge is perfect as it is. It has a bunch of peppermint flavor. But, if you need more, you could add a few drops of peppermint extract when you add the red food coloring. It won’t change the texture of the fudge, but it will add more flavor.
