Pizza is such an easy dinner for busy weeknights. Everyone is a fan and it’s so easy to stick a frozen pizza into a preheated oven and be done with it.

And you can do that if you want. It’s fine. But … hear me out. What if you made semi-homemade pizza instead?

This naan bread pizza recipe uses store-bought naan, so it’s really easy. It takes less than ten minutes from when you put the bread in the oven to when you put it on a plate, which is quicker than it would take to make a frozen pizza. And, really, the hardest part of this is shredding cheese. Which is not hard.

Our recipe is a plain pizza, but you can add any of your favorite toppings to customize your pizza for your tastebuds. That’s actually a great way to get the whole family to help a little bit. Have them put their favorite pizza toppings on their pizza.

Naan Pizza Ingredients:

How To Make Naan Pizza:

Pre-heat the oven to 400 F.

A red pastry brush brushing olive oil on naan bread.

Use a pastry brush to brush 1 tablespoon of olive oil on each piece of the naan bread.

Chopped garlic on naan bread.

Chop the garlic and distribute it evenly across the pieces of naan bread.

Chopped garlic and Italian seasoning on naan bread.

Sprinkle a little Italian seasoning on each piece of naan bread.

Put the pieces of naan bread on a pizza stone and bake for three minutes.

If you don’t have a pizza stone, you can put them on a cookie sheet. But, in my opinion, the best way to cook pizza is on a pizza stone. The stone gets hotter than a baking sheet on an oven rack does, giving you a golden brown crust with a nice crunch, which you usually only get if you bake a pizza at a really high temperature.

Shredded mozzarella cheese in a bowl.

While that’s cooking, shred the mozzarella cheese.

Marinara sauce on naan bread.

Remove the naan bread from the oven.

Spread the marinara sauce evenly between the two pieces of naan bread.

Spread the mozzarella cheese evenly across the pieces of naan bread as well.

Put it in the oven for an additional six minutes until the cheese is melted.

Remove from the oven, sprinkle a little more Italian seasoning on top, and cut each naan pizza into six slices. Serve with your favorite salad.

Variations:

A great idea for a fun dinner is to have a bunch of toppings and let everyone customize their pizza with their own toppings. If you want some ideas, though, we have a bunch below.

Bacon Pizza

Cook bacon slices and crumble it on top of the naan pizza after the pizza is baked.

Greek Pizza

Add sliced red onion before baking the pizza. When it’s done, add chopped black olives and feta cheese.

Margherita Pizza

Instead of shredded mozzarella cheese, cut fresh mozzarella into slices. Add sliced mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and fresh basil on top of pasta sauce.

Pepperoni Naan Pizza

Add pepperoni on top of the mozzarella cheese before baking. Personally, I prefer to use turkey pepperoni on homemade pizza because it crisps up really nicely without adding grease to the already greasy dinner, but you can use traditional pepperoni.

Supreme Lovers

Make the pizza as is, then top it with beef, pepperoni, Italian sausage crumbles, green bell peppers, and onions before baking.

Naan Pizza: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use fresh herbs on naan pizza?

My rule of thumb is to use dried herbs when you’re cooking the herbs and fresh herbs when you’re not cooking them.

So, use dried Italian seasoning with the garlic, then use any fresh herbs on top, after you’ve pulled the naan pizza out of the oven.

Can you use bagged mozzarella?

Bagged cheese, which is already pre-shredded, has a preservative added so that it doesn’t melt and combine in the bag. The trouble with that is it doesn’t melt properly when it’s out of the bag. Even if it’s in the oven for a while, it might just never really melt and give that cheese pull that we all love about pizza.

Shredding a block of cheese doesn’t really take a long time. And since you have to pre-bake the naan bread for three minutes before you add the mozzarella cheese anyway, you can use those three minutes to shred the cheese (honestly, it takes less time than that to shred the cheese). Trust me. It’s worth it.

What naan works best for pizza?

We always use plain naan for pizza because it’s the most similar to the taste of a traditional pizza crust. But you can use roasted garlic naan, whole wheat naan, even mini naan to make mini naan pizzas. Whatever you want will work.

Where do you find naan in the grocery store?

Look for naan in the bakery section of your grocery store. It could also be in the bread aisle.

In our Walmart, naan is on top of the refrigerated section where prepared sandwiches are, so you might have to look there for it.

Can you make naan pizza in the air fryer?

If you’re making one naan pizza, you can fit the naan in an air fryer. Your cook time may vary, but probably not by that much. So it wouldn’t save you that much time.

The difference, though, is if you have one of the smaller air fryers, you won’t be able to fit more than one at a time. And if you have to bake these one at a time, it’ll take forever.

Can you use homemade naan?

If you have a recipe for your own naan bread, you absolutely can use that to make pizza. The only thing with making your own naan is this simple naan pizza recipe wouldn’t be as simple and would take longer than 10 minutes.
