I say this a lot, so if you’ve been around here a while, you’ve heard this before, but I’m a huge fan of making themed food for holidays. And Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to make cute treats for.

If you agree, you need to make our Halloween Chocolate Pretzel Witch Broomsticks. They’re such a fun treat to bring to your Halloween parties this year.

They’re chocolate covered pretzels that are shaped to look like witches’ broomsticks. Super cute. And super easy to make too.

All you need is some almond bark and a steady hand because you do need to pipe the melted almond bark onto the pretzels. The more steady you pipe, the more the melted chocolate looks like the bristles of the broom.

How To Make Halloween Chocolate Pretzel Witch Broomsticks:

Lay a silicone baking mat on a baking sheet.

If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, you can use parchment paper. You want to put something down so that the warm chocolate doesn’t stick to the pan. I prefer the silicone baking mat because it’s reusable, making it more frugal and sustainable, but you can use parchment paper or wax paper if that’s all you have.

Two pretzel sticks on a silicone baking mat.

Set two pretzel sticks next to each other. That will be the broom’s handle.

Six pretzel sticks fanned out on a silicone baking mat.

Take six pretzels and fan them out at the bottom. That will be the bristles of the broom.

You want the end of the pretzel stick handle and fan portion to be as close to each other as possible. Try not to leave a large gap or you’ll have a hard time getting these to stay together.

Set out as many of these pretzel broom sticks as you can fit as a single layer on your baking sheet.

Three squares of chocolate almond bark in a bowl.

Melt the chocolate almond bark according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to melt it in a microwave for one minute, then stir. Continue to microwave and stir at 30 second intervals until the almond bark is completely melted.

A piping bag putting chocolate on pretzel sticks.

Spoon the melted chocolate into a piping bag with a No 10 piping tip.

If you don’t have a piping bag and tips, you can use a plastic sandwich bag with the corner cut off. The only problem with that is the lines don’t come out as uniform and straight as they do when you use a piping tip. But, I didn’t have a set of piping tips for a really long time, so I always did the plastic bag hack.

Make sure that the two pretzels are touching, then pipe a few lines of chocolate almond bark up and down the broom’s handle.

You want to make sure that the chocolate is plentiful enough that it’s sticking the two pretzel sticks together.

Continue until you’ve done all the treats.

Then, melt the vanilla almond bark according to the package.

A piping bag putting white chocolate on pretzel sticks in a v-shape.

Just like you did with the chocolate, put the melted vanilla almond bark into a piping bag with a No 10 piping tip.

Pipe the white chocolate up and down the pretzels at the bottom, making it look like a broom.

You want to make sure to overlap some of the white chocolate over the brown. That’s the only way that the broom is going to hold together.

A hand spritzing something from a bottle onto a chocolate broom.

Spray the white chocolate with the edible luster dust.

Quick note: I know, most people don’t have edible glitter at home. But, you should buy some for these treats. Edible glitter is an easy way to add a little bit of pizzazz to these otherwise simple treats. It just makes them pop and look a little more special.

Halloween sprinkles on a pretzel broom.

Scatter the Halloween sprinkles over the white chocolate.

Continue until you made all of the pretzel broomsticks.

Let them cool completely before serving.

Quick note: I let them cool at room temperature. Chocolate can discolor if it cools too quickly, but that won’t happen if you let it cool naturally. If you’re running late for a party and you need these to cool quicker, you can pop them in the fridge or freezer for a couple minutes. Just keep in mind that the color may change. You can still eat these, of course, they just won’t be as pretty.

Halloween Chocolate Pretzel Witch Broomsticks: Frequently Asked Questions

How do you store leftovers?

If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container. You can leave them on the counter. The pretzels don’t need to be refrigerated. They’ll be best if you eat them within a week.

Can you use chocolate chips instead of almond bark?

Almond bark, which you can purchase in the baking section of your local grocery store, is perfect for when you’re making holiday treats. It melts easily, will remelt if it hardens, and you can’t overmelt it. Chocolate chips don’t melt as easily. You can burn them. And, if you don’t work quick enough and they harden, you can’t remelt them. So, using chocolate chips isn’t ideal.

Chocolate almond bark tastes just like milk chocolate and vanilla almond bark tastes just like white chocolate chips. So, you’re not sacrificing flavor here (as opposed to using candy melts, which look pretty but do not taste great).

If you want another easy treat to go with these, you need to make our Oreo Witch Hats. Serve them on the same tray at your Halloween party for a really cohesive dessert platter. You can add other spooky treats as well, to make it more like a dessert charcuterie board if you’re feeling adventurous.
