We have a friend and one of his favorite things is Oreo cookies. So every time we have plans to see him, I bring some sort of delicious treat featuring Oreo cookies. Earlier this month, at a holiday party, I decided to make him Chocolate-Covered Christmas Oreo Cookies.
And of course, I could have just dipped them and added some sprinkles and called it a day. I did that, basically.
However, I did dip a second coating to make it sort of look like melting snow and then added sprinkles. They’re so cute that way.
If you have someone you’re baking for this holiday season and you want to make them the perfect treat, these dipped Oreo cookies are it. They’re delicious, look amazing, and are really easy to make from just a handful of ingredients (which you might already have in your pantry)

Chocolate-Covered Christmas Oreo Cookies Ingredients:
- 3 squares (6 oz.) of chocolate almond bark
- 12 Oreo cookies
- 1 square (2 oz.) of vanilla almond bark
- Festive sprinkles
How To Make Chocolate-Covered Christmas Oreo Cookies:
Melt the chocolate almond bark according to the package.
The easiest way to do this is to cut the squares into smaller pieces and them in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for one minute. Take the bowl out and stir. If they’re not fully melted, microwave and stir at 30 second intervals until the chocolate is fully melted.
Place one of the Oreo cookies into the melted chocolate.
Flip it to make sure both sides are fully coated.
Use a fork to take the Oreo out of the chocolate. Bang the fork against the side of the bowl to allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
Place the dipped Oreo onto a silicone baking-mat lined baking tray.
Don’t worry if the melted chocolate feels a little ugly when you set it down. As it sits, you’ll get that pretty smooth finish you’re looking for.
Quick note: If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, I suggest you get one. They’re reusable, making them sustainable and frugal, so they save you money in the long run.
If you don’t have one right now and you want to make these, you can line the cookie sheet with either parchment paper or wax paper. You want something that the melted chocolate can pop right off of. If you put melted chocolate directly on the pan itself, it’ll still and basically be impossible to remove.
Continue until you’re done with all of the Oreo cookies.
If the melted chocolate starts cooling and isn’t as runny as when you started, you can just pop it back in the microwave for 15 seconds and stir to get it melty again.
By the time you get to the last cookie, the chocolate on the first cookie should be hard. If not, you’ll want to wait until the chocolate is cooled completely before the next step.
Melt the vanilla almond bark in a bowl.
Use a spoon to pour just a little bit of the melted white chocolate onto the top third of the Oreo cookie.
Use a flower nail to spread the melted chocolate around to create the design you want.
I made a wavy line, then filled all the way from that line to the edge of the Oreo cookie. If you don’t want to do all that, you could just add a white chocolate drizzle on top. Honestly, decorating is a great way for you to express yourself and your creativity. These are your holiday treats. Make them however you like.
Quick note: I tried to use a piping bag to create the design originally. It worked fine, but it did feel like a little bit of an unnecessary hassle. Using the flower nail was much quicker. If you don’t have one, you could just use a toothpick to spread the melted chocolate around instead.
Then, add the sprinkles on top.
If you don’t have sprinkles handy, you can crush up some candy canes and use those on top.
Continue until you’re done with all the cookies. Let the chocolate coating cool completely to room temperature before serving them.
Chocolate-Covered Christmas Oreo Cookies: Frequently Asked Questions
You can store the cookies in an airtight container on the counter. They don’t need to be refrigerated and they’ll last about two weeks this way.
Since they last so long, you can easily make these ahead of time and then just add them to your dessert trays when you’re ready.
I don’t suggest using milk chocolate or white chocolate chips instead of chocolate and vanilla almond bark in this recipe. Almond bark is super forgiving. If it gets hard, you can just remelt it in the microwave. And if you leave it in the microwave for a little too long, it won’t burn.
Chocolate chips have the potential to burn. And if they harden, you can’t remelt them. Sometimes you can add coconut oil or vegetable shortening to try and rescue them, but I don’t ever feel like you can get the chocolate to set right after that.
You can remelt candy melts. But, that candy coating doesn’t taste as good as almond bark, so I don’t use it when I dip cookies.
A classic Oreo cookie has the best ratio of cookie to chocolate when you’re dipping them. Oreo Thins or Double Stuffed have either not enough creme or too much creme, respectively, when they’re dipped. So they don’t taste as great.
As far as flavors, Oreo has so many now. You can use the regular creme ones or go with any of the flavors. It’s up to you.
