I like hosting parties, mostly so I have an excuse to make cute food. Because I am a sucker for a good time. And a sucker for making anything that’s extra.
And I’m not even ashamed.
Like let me host a party or invite me to a party and I am showing up with something adorably on theme.
So July 4th means I have an excuse to make an American Flag Charcuterie Board.
I absolutely want you to make this, but I also want you to make it your own. So, use my ingredients as a guide and examples, but feel free to choose different red foods and white cheeses to make yours.

American Flag Charcuterie Board Recipe

American Flag Charcuterie Board Ingredients:
You can get the full list of ingredients with measurements in the printable recipe card below.
- Blueberries – You need this for the blue section of the flag.
- Cheese – You’ll need a slice of provolone to make stars, plus white cheddar, Monterey jack, and mozzarella pearls for the white rows.
- Pepperoni – This will be one of your red rows. You could substitute another red meat, like salami if you wanted.
- Crackers – We use Ritz crackers, even though they’re really brown, because they fit well on a charcuterie board. If you can find a whiter cracker, use that.
- Strawberries – This is perfect for another of your red layers. If you don’t love strawberries, you could substitute raspberries.
- Grape tomatoes – This is another red layer. Cherry tomatoes would work well here too.
How To Make An American Flag Charcuterie Board:
Start with a rectangular board.
Personally, I use a serving tray because it has raised sides so I don’t have to worry about anything rolling away when I transport it from the kitchen to the living room (or wherever I’m serving it).

Start by adding your blueberries into one of the corners.
You can either make a square, so it’s similar to the flag, or you can sort of let them spill into more of a triangular shape to give your charcuterie flag a little movement.
Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut some stars out of a slice of provolone cheese.
Place those on top of the blueberries.
Quick note: If you don’t have a star-shaped cookie cutter set and don’t want to buy one just for this, you can cut stars out with a sharp knife. Since stars have all straight lines, it’s pretty easy.

Slice your block of Monterey Jack cheese into slices.
Lay them across from the edge of the blueberries to the edge of the tray.
I had enough to make two rows of cheese, so I overlapped them to give the board a little bit of movement.

Lay the pepperoni in rows below the cheese.
Now, you don’t have to do this, but what I did was two layers of pepperoni and overlapped them a little, from one end to the other.
Then, I had exactly enough pepperoni left to place a single, flat layer on top. It looked better to me that way, but again, this is your board. Do what looks best for you.

Lay a layer of crackers below the pepperoni row.
Quick note: I used Ritz crackers with this, partially because I have so many from a recent Ritz crackers deal.
My cousin, who was helping me with this, wanted to run out and find some sort of white crackers. She was worried the brown row was gonna throw the whole board off.
I told her to trust the process.
And in the end, the brown was fine.
I bring this up because maybe you’re stressing because your cheese isn’t white enough or your strawberries more pink than red. But it’s fine. Trust the process. Your guests will be impressed and inhale the board, no matter what.

Cut the tops off the strawberries, then cut them in half.
Lay a row of strawberries below the crackers.
We spent a little bit of time moving ours around so they sat on top of each other nicely. You don’t have to do that.

Cut the white cheddar cheese into cubes and lay those in a line below the strawberry row.
We cut the cheddar in a different way than the Monterey Jack, just so we give our guests a way to tell them apart.
Do you have to do this? No. But it does make your charcuterie board look more interesting.

Add a layer of grape tomatoes.
These are gonna want to roll around, so just be ready for that. They’re a good addition to the board and make it feel more antipasto like, especially with the mozzarella cheese, but these are the most pain in the neck ingredient of them all.

Finish with a row of mozzarella pearls (we use the “little chips” ones). Make sure that this last row goes from the tomatoes all the way down to the edge of the board so your charcuterie board looks full.
Quick note: When you buy these, they usually are sitting in a little bit of liquid, so you don’t want to dump the bag onto your charcuterie board. You’re gonna want to grab them out of the bag and place them down.
And that’s it. Serve it to your guests and enjoy.

American Flag Charcuterie Board: Frequently Asked Questions
If you have leftover fruit from making the board and you’re looking for a way to use them, our fruit sparklers will use up your extra strawberries and blueberries.
If you mean leftovers after everyone is done eating the board, you want to pack the cheese in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. You want to pack the leftover fruit in another container and put that in the fridge as well.
Your crackers can go in an airtight bag and be left at room temperature. However, just check your crackers before storing them. The humidity (because you’re serving this in July) might really soften them.
If you want some more red ideas, you can use slices of red peppers, red grapes, raspberries, or cherries.
My sister-in-law made it with a layer of prosciutto on hers.
You could use mini marshmallows, mini powdered doughnuts, yogurt-covered pretzels, and pound cake slices, if you don’t mind a sweet board.
You could also add pita chips, cauliflower, or other white cheese or crackers.

- 8 oz. Monteray Jack cheese block
- 4 oz. pepperoni slices
- 1 sleeve Ritz crackers
- 16 oz. strawberries
- 8 oz. white cheddar cheese block
- 1 pint grape tomatoes
- 8 oz. mozzarella pearls ("little chips")
Instructions
Add the blueberries into one of the corners.
Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut some stars out of a slice of provolone cheese. Place those on top of the blueberries.
Slice your block of Monterey Jack cheese into slices. Lay them across from the edge of the blueberries to the edge of the tray.
Lay the pepperoni row below the cheese.
