When I was growing up and my parents would host parties, they always served slices of cheese blocks, crackers, two kinds of olives, and those tiny gherkin pickles that were so popular in the ’80s.
We just called it appetizers.
We weren’t Italian, so we wouldn’t call it antipasto. And, this wasn’t the 2020s, so we wouldn’t call it charcuterie.
But, here we collectively are, decades later, serving slices of block cheese, crackers, olives, and other accoutrements, calling it by that fancy name: charcuterie.
It sounds fancy. But it also kind of feels fancy, too, right? I mean, you could bring cheese and crackers to a party. Everyone would love that. I mean, everyone loves cheese.
But, arrange on the board and give it a French name, and suddenly you’re the hit of the party instead of the lazy person who just cut cheese and opened a box of crackers.
But, also, I get it.
Charcuterie, it’s been around for a little bit. It’s getting tired. So, instead of just a plain board with some salami roses and flavored mustard, dress up your board by making one of these unique charcuterie ideas.
Trust me, your guest will love them . And, they’re not that much more work than cutting some cheese and opening a box of crackers.

I have a habit of making charcuterie boards for holidays, so, to make this a little bit easier, I put these in calendar order.
Savory Charcuterie Boards

Valentine’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie Board
Valentine’s Day is filled with lots of sugar, so you wanna make sure that the bellies of your loved ones are filled up with at least a little bit of nutrition that morning.
And a little bit of sugar.
This Valentine’s Day breakfast charcuterie board has breakfast sausage and bacon, mini pancakes, some fruit, and, of course, whipped cream and sprinkles and syrup.
Because Valentine’s Day morning does need a little bit of sugar, even if that just comes in the form of maple syrup.

American Flag Charcuterie Board
If there’s a better way to celebrate America than with meat and cheese and fruit, I don’t know it. So, this American flag charcuterie board is the best way to enjoy Independence Day.
OK, I’m kidding. It’s fireworks. Definitely fireworks.
But, fireworks at home is illegal in some states and this charcuterie is legal everywhere.
Celebrate America for sure, but choose how you celebrate wisely.

Patriotic Fruit Flag
I’m not quite sure if this fruit flag counts as charcuterie But this is my list so I’m gonna count it.
Bananas and strawberries are cut up and skewered along with blueberries, then arranged on a board to look like an American flag. It’s super cute for your July 4th party.
If you want to make it more charcuterie- and less kabob-feeling, you can skip the kabobs and just arrange the fruit directly on a tray.

Thanksgiving Turkey Charcuterie Board
We always serve cheese and crackers on Thanksgiving afternoon, just to have a snack that’s not too filling since everyone is gonna fill up on turkey and stuffing later.
You can put it on a plate … or, you can be a little creative and arrange it to look like turkey feathers.
The hardest part of this is cutting the turkey’s body out of a piece of cheese. But, trust me, it’s worth it.

Charcuterie Christmas Tree
Salty meat and cheese is a great appetizer for your Christmas guests. But, you wanna make it a little bit special. I mean, it is Jesus’ birthday after all.
So, celebrate the big man (well, I guess the big man’s son) with a 3D Christmas tree charcuterie board filled with meat and cheese and complete with a star on top.
Okay, fine. That’s a way to celebrate Christmas’ other big man (Santa), but cross-shaped charcuterie feels kind of sac relig.

Christmas Wreath Charcuterie Board
If you like the idea of Christmas charcuterie, but the 3D board above feels a little intimidating, this Christmas wreath charcuterie board is probably more your speed.
Grape tomatoes, cheese, and olives alternate on tiny skewers that are placed in a circle and look like a beautiful Christmas wreath you would want to hang on your door.
If you’re also serving salad for Christmas, borrow some of the lettuce to add some greenery to your Christmas wreath. Or, if you wanna be a little bit extra, buy some rosemary twigs because that looks like Evergreen trees.

Candy Cane-Shaped Charcuterie Board
Candy canes are sweet, but this Candy Cane-Shaped Charcuterie Board is not (as long as you overlook that bowl of Christmas chocolate off to the side).
It’s meat, cheese, kalamata olives, and sun-dried tomatoes, shaped to look like a candy cane, with a tomato border around them.
Add some crackers and that aforementioned chocolate for good measure and you have a really good Christmas appetizer.
Sweet Charcuterie Boards

Donut Croquembouche
If you’ve watched any of the baking competition shows, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen them attempt a croquembouche, which is basically tiny pastries pile together to form a cone in shape.
They take a lot of work, and, very often, fall apart.
This donut hole charcuterie board is a play on that except it’s way less work.
You take store-bought donut holes and affix them to a cone form with toothpicks. Add a star up top like a Christmas tree and you have a beautiful dessert to serve your holiday guests.

Cookie Charcuterie Board
Everyone thinks of charcuterie as an appetizer, but you can impress your guests by serving them this cookie charcuterie board for dessert.
This version is so incredibly easy. You’ll wonder why you haven’t been serving this at every single party.
Store-bought cookies are beautifully arranged on a board. Then, icing is put into a bowl and used as a sort of divider between the cookie flavors.
Add some small bowls with sprinkles, chocolate chips, or mini marshmallows and invite your guests to make delicious dipped cookies, or cookie sandwiches.
