Witches, well, the bad ones … melt. So do the tasty ones. If you make our Melted White Halloween Candy recipe, anyway.
It’s supposed to be a melting witch. Not any specific melted witch although it does really look like the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz because, well, you use green candy melts to make the majority of the treat.
The rest of it is made from our Oreo Witch Hat cookie recipe. I’ll run through that quick in the post below, but your best bet is to click the link if you want a more detailed step-by-step guide for how to make the hat.
These are really so much fun to make. Once you get in a groove, you should be able to make them really quickly. A dozen should take around thirty minutes or so.

These melted witches aren’t the only Halloween recipe on Drugstore Divas. We have a bunch of fun treats to celebrate the holiday in our list of Recipes For Halloween Treats.

Melted Witch Halloween Candy Ingredients:
You can get the full list of ingredients with measurements in the recipe card below.
- Oreo Cookie Thins – The Oreo Thins are a good size for a brim. The regular stuffed Oreo cookies are too large.
- Green candy melts – This melts a lot easier than dying your own melted white chocolate with green dye.
- Hershey’s Kisses – Any flavor works, but make sure it’s a milk or dark chocolate one so it matches the Oreo cookie’s color.
- Halloween sprinkles – We like the flat sprinkles for this, but you can use whatever you have at home.
- Candy eyeballs – Medium sized eyes fit best.
- Pretzel sticks – You want a thin pretzel stick, not the thick ones. Those will be too large for the candy.
- Chocolate almond bark – You can find this in the baking section of your local grocery stores. It’s easier to work with than melted chocolate chips.
- Silver edible luster dust – You can find this in the baking section of your grocery store as well. We don’t recommend skipping it because the green candy melts look really matte without this sparkle.
How To Make Melted Witch Halloween Candy:
We’re gonna start by making the witch hats.
Quick reminder: We have a full Oreo Witch Hats post that goes into more details. This is gonna be the quick version, but it’ll get the job done.

Set the Oreo cookies on a silicone baking mat-lined cookie sheet. You’ll need one for each melted witch.

Melt some of the green candy melts, according to the package, in a microwave safe bowl.
The easiest way to do this is to melt them in the microwave for 1 minute, then stir. If they’re not completely melted, add them back and stir at 30 second intervals until the candy melts are completely melted.

Add the melted green candy melts to a piping bag with a No. 10 piping tip.
Pipe a circle in the center of the cookie.

Unwrap the Hershey’s Kiss and stick it in the center of the green circle.

Scatter Halloween sprinkles over the melted green candy.
Continue until you’ve made enough hats for your witches, then set them aside.

Melt the rest of the green candy melts. The amount you’re gonna melt will vary based on how many melted witches you want to make.
Spoon some of the green candy melts onto a silicone baking mat-lined cookie sheet.
Quick note: The melted chocolate will pop right off the silicone baking mat. If you don’t have one, you could use a piece of parchment paper or wax paper. I prefer the baking mat because it’s reusable, so it’s more frugal or sustainable. But the other options will work as well.

Spread the melted chocolate into a circle-ish shape. This is your witch. She’s melting. She’s not gonna melt into a perfect circle. Just make sure you spread the chocolate wide enough that you can fit her hat and broom stick.

Quickly stick the witch hat into the melted green chocolate.

Stick two candy eyes into the chocolate.

Add a pretzel stick.

Melt the chocolate almond bark in the microwave.

Add it to a piping bag with a No. 7 piping tip.
Pipe the bristles of the broom at the end of the pretzel stick.

Spray the melted witch with edible luster dust, avoiding the hat.
If you get any of the glitter on the edible eyeballs, just wipe it off.
Quick note: You can skip the edible glitter if you don’t want to spend the money on it. But honestly, that shimmer is the best part of these. If you don’t add it, the green candy melts just look a little flat and not as interesting as it could look.

Continue until you’re done with all the witches.
Let them cool completely to room temperature before popping them off of the silicone baking mat.
We serve these on a tray with extra Oreo witch hat cookies and with our chocolate pretzel broom sticks.
Melted Witch Halloween Candy: Frequently Asked Questions
Candy melts are so much easier to work with than chocolate. You can’t overmelt them and if the melted candy melts cool and harden, you can just reheat them. Any brand of candy melts will do this. I use Wilton candy melts because they’re the most accessible and affordable, but any brand will do this.
You can’t do that with chocolate. Once chocolate hardens, you’re done. You can’t melt it again. And if you overheat it, it will ruin and you have to start over. You can’t save it.
If you did want to make this melted witch bark with chocolate chips, you would have to melt white chocolate chips, add a few drops of green food coloring (gel food coloring, not traditional), stir, and then work really quickly so you can pipe and decorate all your witches before the chocolate cools.
Since you don’t need too much of the chocolate bark, you could use either milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips for that part. I will say, though, almond bark works like candy melts in that if it gets hard, you can reheat it to melt it again.
These will last for about a week on the counter, as long as you store them in an airtight container.
So, if you’re making them for Halloween dessert or for an upcoming Halloween party, you can make them up to a week ahead of time.
Using a piping bag makes these a lot easier. If you don’t have a piping bag and tips, you can cut the corner off a ziptop plastic bag and use that to pipe instead.
I used to use plastic bags all the time because I didn’t want to spend the extra money on piping bags and tips. But, once I actually bought a set of piping tips, I started using them all the time. It really did take my treats to the next level, so I definitely suggest investing in them.
