Oftentimes, when we have visitors from New York who offer to bring bread products to us, I’ll ask them to bring down bagels for him. He loves them for breakfast, and we just can’t get great bagels here. That’s part of why I’m so thrilled about these 2 Ingredient Dough Flax Seed Bagels.

I love this 2 Ingredient Dough. I’m pretty obsessed with it. It’s really easy to make, which means you can have fresh bread all the time.

And fresh bagels.

When Pete tried one, he was so happy. He told me right away how great they were, then actually texted me later to tell me they were fantastic.

They get all the delicious nooks and crannies that bagels get and toast up really well. My only complaint is that the dough recipe only makes four bagels. That will last us two days. And that’s because there are only two of us here. If you’re making these for a family, keep in mind that one batch is only four bagels. So if you need or want more, you’ll want to double or triple the batch.

What You’ll Need:

What You’ll Do:

Pre-heat the oven to 350.

Make the 2 Ingredient Dough (just click that link for our recipe). Add two pinches of salt into the dough before you start to kneed it. Sprinkle it with garlic powder as well.

Cut the dough into quarters. Take one quarter and roll it into a ball. Then, roll that into a log. When it is even, put the two ends of the dough together, then pinch them to form the bagel.

Scramble the egg in a shallow bowl. Dip the entire bagel in the egg as an egg wash. A lot of people put the egg wash on the top of the dough, but if you want that bagel “crunch” with every bite, you want to dredge the entire bagel in egg.

Put the eggwashed bagels on a foil-lined cookie sheet. Sprinkle flax seed on the top of the bagels.

Bake for about 30 minutes, until the bagels are golden brown. Start checking them around 28 minutes, as oven times can vary.

Keep them on the cookie sheet until they’ve cooled slightly. Pull them from the foil, then let them cool completely.

If you’re following Weight Watchers, these 2 Ingredient Dough bagels are only 3 Freestyle Points each (when you make four per batch).

The best way to eat them is to cut them in half and then toast them in the toaster. When I’ve used the 2 Ingredient Dough recipe to make bread bowls, the inside was cooked through but doughy. I’m not a fan of doughy bagels at all, and toasting them eliminates that. Plus, it enhances the crunch of the bagel.

You can top your bagels with anything else you like (a big hit is Everything But The Bagel seasoning), but keep in mind that if you are adding anything sweet or cheesy, you will be changing the number of Weight Watchers Freestyle Points. Eggs are free with the new Weight Watchers Freestyle program, though, so if you top this with a fried egg, it’s a healthy and filling breakfast.
