These Vampire Donuts are an ode to the regular people, the ones who want to make a Halloween treat but just don’t have hours to do it.
I see you, and I feel you.
There are people who make everything from scratch. You know them, right? I wish I had that sort of time, but I don’t. I make dinner every night, and it doesn’t include opening something pre-made and pre-packaged, but I’m not over here making homemade cheese and bread every night.
Honestly, I wish I could. I really do. But I work and take care of the house and until my blog can write itself, no can do.
I still want cute treats, though. And I’m sure you do too.
Enter these Halloween Vampire Donuts.
I bought a half dozen doughnuts from the doughnut shop to make them. That cuts out the steps of making the doughnuts, waiting for them to cool, and frosting them. All time consuming things that you may not have time for. Especially because Halloween is on a work day.
But these are so cute, no one will care if you baked the doughnuts yourself (if you want to, though, we suggest using this banana doughnut recipe).

Vampire Donuts Tutorial

Vampire Donuts Supplies:
- Half-dozen glazed doughnuts
- Red decorating gel
- Black decorating gel
- Plastic vampire fangs
- Large candy eyes
How To Make Vampire Donuts:
Start with doughnut shop doughnuts.
I bought three different variants, two of each. I picked maple glazed doughnuts because they’re tan, vanilla glazed doughnuts because they’re white, and double chocolate donuts because they’re dark brown. Traditionally, Dracula is pretty pale on account of the fact that he can’t go out until it’s dark. But I wanted to make these vampire donuts in a variety of skin tones.
Cut out the sides of the plastic vampire fangs, leaving just the fangs parts.
You don’t want to give them the opportunity to open and close anymore because I promise you (from experience) that they will flex and open wide in the center of your doughnut. The doughnut will not hold the fangs closed and will ruin the doughnut.
Gently shove the two plastic vampire fangs pieces into the center hole of the doughnut to give the vampire teeth.
Now, about the eyes. There are actually three sizes of candy eyes: mini, large, and jumbo. The mini are perfect in something like our Halloween chocolate bark, but they are too small for doughnuts. The jumbo eyes are too big. So, in the words of Goldilocks, the large eyes are “just right.”
Put a small — I stress very small — dot of the black decorating gel (gel, not decorating icing — there’s a difference) on the back of the candy eye. Affix it to the “top” section of your vampire. Do the same to make the second eye.
Don’t skip that step. You can’t just sort of shove the eyes into the icing that’s already on the doughnut. They’ll fall off (because the icing has already dried) and it will end up just crushing the existing icing and making imprints that look like Dracula has bags under his eyes.
Use the black decorating gel to draw on your vampire’s hair. Be sure to make the deep v (aka a widow’s peak — yay seventh grade science) to make your doughnut really look like Dracula.
Very carefully, use the black decorating gel to add eyebrows between the candy eyes and the hair.
Now, I’ll be honest. The decorating gel is pretty forgiving, especially when you’re drawing on that hair. But it is thick. I was worried about the eyebrows looking too thick, so I actually put a glob of decorating gel on to the edge of a toothpick and drew them on that way.
I added a goatee to one of mine, too.
Use the red decorating gel to draw “blood” dripping from the vampire fangs. Dracula doesn’t say “I vant to suck your blood” for nothing.
You can eat them right away or you can put them in the fridge. The fridge will actually help the decorative gel set too.
