A few weeks ago, someone in our neighborhood group posted about a community project where people were drawing shamrocks on their driveways and doors to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. She wanted to do something similar, but since St. Patrick’s Day had passed, she was hoping our community could draw rainbows. That coincided with Chalk Your Walk and my friend Mallory making the cutest masking tape and chalk mural craft.
Side note: Chalk Your Walk is a movement that went viral. People were drawing pictures and writing inspiring messages with chalk on driveways and fences. Then, anyone who was walking by could enjoy the positivity.
So my friend Mallory and her daughter made this adorable masking tape and chalk mural craft. What’s great is it’s the perfect outdoor activity to do with your kids.
And right now, I know a lot of parents are looking for kids activities.
Masking Tape And Chalk Mural Craft
What You’ll Need:
- Masking Tape
- Chalk
- Scissors
What You’ll Do:
This craft is really great for you to do with your kids because, if you have little kids, you’ll have to help them with this. I would suggest that you do the cutting and taping portion of the craft, then have your kid do the coloring portion.
Tape a large rectangle on your surface. Mallory did this on her fence, but you could do it on your driveway if you don’t have a fence.
Cut smaller pieces of the masking tape to create geometric shapes within your rectangle.
Have your child color each shape a different color.
You could also turn it into a learning activity if you wanted where you name a color and have your kid find that color in the box of chalk and then color a section that color.
Right now, I think a lot of parents are trying to find home-based learning ideas, so definitely try that one.
Pull off the tape to reveal the mural. The tape will leave negative space.
What’s great about this is that when it rains, it’s gone. And then you can do it all over again.
