I’ll be honest. I don’t like ham. So when Pete and I were spending Easter together just us last year, I was not planning on making the classic Easter ham.

But then Pete’s friend and his family were planning on being in town and having Easter dinner with us, so we asked what the kids like. And he said they’d like a ham dinner.

So that’s how I ended up making my first ham (which I loved, by the way, because I made it taste more like bacon than anything else).

And how we ended up having a lot of leftover ham.

Pete used some leftover ham slices in sandwiches for lunch for work, but that wasn’t for me. So I started making other recipes using leftover ham. They’re all collected in this list in hopes that if you have leftover holiday ham, or just leftover ham in general, this gives you some ideas of how to use it.

If you’ve never made ham before, let me tell you: slow cooker ham is so easy. You just put the ham and everything else in the slow cooker and your holiday meal is done. My favorite version is our Slow Cooker Brown Sugar And Cola Glazed Ham. I don’t even like ham and I’m obsessed with this recipe.

Ham And Potato Hash

Pete loves making potato hash for breakfast. It’s such a filling way to start the day.

When we have leftover ham, he makes Ham And Potato Hash for breakfast. The leftover ham is heated in a pan, then added to a bowl with potatoes that are cooked in a way that’s similar to home fries, cooked onions, and an egg. That’s all cooked together in a large skillet and topped with a slice of cheese.

It’s so good.

Slow Cooker Ham Bone Soup

If you made a bone in ham, save the bone itself. Toss the ham bone in a slow cooker with vegetables, potatoes, and chicken broth to make this delicious Slow Cooker Ham Bone Soup.

If you left some ham on the bone when you carved it, that should be enough for the soup. If you trimmed it bare like we do, that’s still fine. The bone itself will add a lot of flavor. Then, when you’re finishing the soup, you’ll add some extra ham in the slow cooker anyway.

Quick note: If you have ham leftovers, but you didn’t save the bone, you can get a ham hock at your local grocery store and then make this soup with the leftover ham you do have.

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup With Ham

This Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup With Ham is such an easy recipe. You add leftover ham, vegetables, and a bag of peas into a slow cooker and let it cook. That’s basically all you do. Until you heat some extra ham bits on the stove to use as a crunchy garnish. But really, if you’re looking for the easiest way to use ham, this is it.

This soup is one of Pete’s favorite recipes that I make, and you know me, I can eat soup anytime, so this hearty soup is on rotation any time we have ham to use up.

This Yakimeshi recipe (also known as Chahan and Chinese Fried Rice) is amazing! Get it at www.drugstoredivas.net.

Yakimeshi

When I go to Japan, I eat my weight in yakimeshi (a Chinese fried rice that you get in Chinese restaurants in Japan). It’s my favorite. I can’t get it at home, so I have to make it myself.

I usually use packaged ham trimmings when I make it, but when there’s leftover ham available, that’s a really great way to impart a ton of flavor into this Yakimeshi recipe. The ham is heated, then garlic, cooked rice, an egg, and green onions combine to make the rest of the dish.

You use a little soy sauce in this recipe to add some flavor and salt, and the leftover ham adds a little more salt too, so you end up with a really delicious dinner that doesn’t need to use a lot of extra seasoning.
