It was announced yesterday that new emojis are coming out. There will be a sloth, which makes sense because sloths are the new unicorns. There’s a period emoji, which I can see as a follow up to an eggplant emoji. And, the one that makes Waffle House most happy: a waffle emoji. For these DIY Emoji Paper Clips though, I went with classic emojis.
These are ones I use over and over. I don’t go to enough hoedowns to need the new banjo emoji.
I made these while we were watching TV, and they came out a lot cuter than I actually anticipated. They were pretty easy to make, too, except they did take a bit more concentration than I expected.
DIY Emoji Paper Clips
The colored card stock pages listed in the supplies are what I needed to make my three emojis. If you’re planning on making different ones, obviously you’ll need different colored card stock.
DIY Emoji Paper Clips Supplies:
- Bottle cap
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Blue card stock
- Red card stock
- Black card stock
- White card stock
- Yellow card stock
- Glue
- Paper clips

How To Make DIY Emoji Paper Clips:
Trace a bottle cap with a pencil on the yellow card stock. Cut out as many yellow circles as you have paper clips.
Carefully, and using the emoji keyboard on your phone as an example, cut the red, white, black, and blue pieces of card stock in order to create the emoji’s faces.
Glue the card stock cut outs to make the faces and let them dry completely.
Tape the faces to the tops of paper clips.
That’s all.
They’re definitely cute and will make your kids smile.
Or cry.
Or roll their eyes.
You know. All the emotions that these emojis are making.
DIY Emoji Paper Clips: Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re not good at cutting out card stock, you could draw these with markers instead. For me, I liked cutting them from card stock and the texture that gave. But coloring them with markers works too.
Most phones have an emoji keyboard that you can open. If for some reason yours doesn’t, you can see all the emojis and their meanings at the Emojipedia.
If you want to make one of these paper clips, but you’re a little unsure of an emoji’s meaning, it’s probably a good idea to look it up … just in case.
