My only gripe about our house is that it’s so hard for me to get into our attic. It’s above the hallway on our second floor, and it doesn’t have a pull string or ladder. All of our holiday decorations are in the attic, and it’s just easier for me to make new ones, like these DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs, than try to get into the attic.
this year instead of going through the hassle of getting the old ones down. Thus, these were born.
DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs Tutorial
These Egg Carton Eyeballs are meant to be used purely as decorations.
DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs Supplies:
How To Make DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs:
Cut the top off of the egg carton. You won’t need that so just go ahead and recycle it.
Spray paint the entire egg carton black. Wait for the spray paint to dry.
If you need to, you can paint a second coat, but you should be able to get away with one.
Side note: I didn’t have any trouble using spray paint on these. But, certain Styrofoam will deteriorate when spray paint is applied to that. So, you might want to spray a tiny section on the top of the egg carton to see how it will react to the spray paint.
If you find that the spray paint is eating away at the egg carton, you’ll want to paint these with a black acrylic paint instead.
Paint white circles on each egg cavity, leaving a small black circle in the middle. Wait for that to try completely.
Cut the carton into six pieces, each with two eyes.
Punch a hole with the scissor’s point in the middle of each pair of eyes and twist a pipe cleaner through the hole.
Hang all over your trees and bushes.
DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs: Frequently Asked Questions
If you want to make these DIY Halloween eyeballs a little more spooky, you can make them glow.
The easiest way to do that is to follow the tutorial as is. When the white paint is completely dry, paint a layer of glow in the dark paint on top of it, making sure to avoid the black pupil.
Paint that is charged thanks to UV light is what you want to use. That way, the sun will charge it during the day and the eyes will glow at night.
Imagine how cool and creepy that would look when people are driving past your house at night.
If you don’t have an empty egg carton (because maybe you’re vegan and you don’t buy eggs), that’s fine.
Lucky for you, you can actually purchase egg cartons online. These are clean, unused egg cartons.
Many farmers will purchase those to put their eggs in, but you can definitely use them for crafting.
If you don’t have pipe cleaners, you can use ornament hooks to hang the DIY Egg Carton Eyeballs instead.
They might just be a little harder to use in terms of getting the eyeballs to hang on to trees or bushes.
So, instead, you can use a wooden skewer. Use tape to securely affix the eyeballs onto the skewer, then stick the pointed side of the skewer into the ground to hold it in place.
If you want to make this into an Egg Carton Eye Mask Craft, you can absolutely do that.
Take a popsicle stick (if making this for a child) or a wooden skewer (if making this for an adult) and tape it to the side of the eyeballs. That will make it look something like an old pair of theater specticals.
