Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls Recipe (Made from 2 Ingredient Dough)
This recipe isn’t for 2 Ingredient Dough. Rather, it’s a recipe using 2 Ingredient Dough. Check out our 2 Ingredient Dough recipe for tips and tricks to make and use the dough.
Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls Ingredients:
- 1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 oz. cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- Pinch of salt
How To Make Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls:
Pre-heat the oven to 350.
Make your 2 Ingredient Dough. Mix together Greek yogurt, self-rising flour, garlic powder, and salt. Form in into a ball.
Flour your surface. Put the dough ball on your surface and cut it into 32 equal pieces. The easiest way to do that: Cut the dough in half (making two pieces). Cut those pieces into halves (making four pieces), then each one in half (making eight pieces), and cut each one of those into four pieces.
Set the dough aside.
Cut the block of cheddar cheese into 32 cubes. Use the same “math” you used to cut the dough to cut the cheese.
Take one piece of the dough. Roll it into a ball, then flatten it.
Place a block of cheddar cheese in the center of the flattened ball.
Fold the dough around it. Roll the dough in your hands until you can’t see a seam.
Put the dough in the center of a round 9-inch cake pan.
Continue with the rest of the dough. Every time you put a dough ball in the cake pan, put it close to the dough ball you put down previously, but don’t touch the two dough balls.
The dough balls will expand when they bake. So you want them to all touch, similar to monkey bread, when they’re done baking. But you need to give them a little room to expand or they’ll turn into a big mess in the oven.
When all 32 dough balls are made, melt the butter. Chop the garlic. Add it to the melted butter. Add a pinch of salt.
Use a pastry brush to spread the garlic butter mixture over the dough balls.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls are a light golden brown and cooked through.
Serve warm.
Do you have to bake them in a round cake pan?
I love the presentation of baking these Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls in a round cake pan. The round cake pan and the round dough balls just looks awesome. Plus, the cake pan is a great way to confine the dough balls while they’re baking so they don’t try to open and flatten as they bake.
If you don’t have a round cake pan, you can bake them in an 8×8-inch square cake pan.
And, if for some odd reason you don’t have any cake pans at all, you can bake these on a sheet pan or a cookie sheet. You just might end up with more of a freeform shape.
Can you use pre-made dough to make these?
I always have non-fat Greek yogurt in the fridge because I make this dough all the time. But maybe you don’t buy it on a regular basis.
If you have a package of pre-made or refrigerated dough, you can use that to make these. Although it does sort of change the recipe, it doesn’t change the concept.
If you have pre-made pizza dough, you can cut that into 32 pieces and carry on with this recipe. If you are using refrigerated dough, which generally comes in eight pieces, you’ll want to cut those pieces in half. That’ll only give you 16 pieces, so you’ll need cans of refrigerated dough to make this full recipe.
Can you make Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls ahead of time?
If you’re making these for a party, you might want to make them ahead of time. That’s fine. You can make the dough balls, then put them all in the cake pan. Wrap the pan in plastic wrap, and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake them.
You could probably get away with storing these overnight in the fridge, but I wouldn’t keep them any longer than that.
How can you store these?
If you have leftover Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
They’re best if you eat them within four days.
How can you reheat these?
These are actually pretty delicious cold. But if you want to reheat them, you can do it one of two ways.
The easiest way is to reheat them in the air fryer. Heat them at 380 for three to four minutes.
You can also heat them in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes.
If you’re in a pinch for time, you can microwave these too, but they don’t reheat as well in the microwave.
Are these Weight Watchers Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls?
Two ingredient dough is a really popular Weight Watchers recipe. Non-fat Greek yogurt is zero points on Weight Watchers, so the entire batch of 2 Ingredient Dough is only 12 points.
But, are these Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls Weight Watchers friendly?
They can be, but I didn’t make this recipe with Weight Watchers points in mind.
But, let’s see. The dough is 12 WW Freestyle points. The butter is 10 points (ouch!). And 4 ounces of cheese is 16 points. So, that’s a lot. It’s 38 points total, which is more than you should eat in one day.
But you’re not going to sit down and have these Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls as a meal. You’re going to have a couple of them as a snack. So, let’s be realistic. A full batch is 38 points, making each one a little less than 1.2 points each.
Which means nothing really because Weight Watchers doesn’t do partial points. So, to get to a whole number, or as close as we can, it’s 4.75 points for four. So we can call it 5 points for 4. And honestly, that’s not too bad.
