Pete and I are very good about eating healthy. We don’t eat any red meat; our Meatless Monday extends through Friday most weeks, and I don’t keep snacks in our home. But sometimes, you have to break that and make exceptions, especially for a bacon, egg, and cheese doughnut breakfast sandwich.
Oh. My Gosh.
So I actually picked up a dozen glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts recently with the intention of making this for brunch. I was so worried that it would be incredibly sweet and I would instantly regret this decision.
I was wrong.
Bacon, Egg, And Cheese Doughnut Breakfast Sandwich
This isn’t as sweet as it appears and is actually really delicious. It’s not heavy or filling, so you don’t even feel bad about it after. Plus, what more could you want from life besides a doughnut breakfast sandwich?
What You’ll Need:
- 2 Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts
- 5 slices of bacon
- 2 eggs
- 2 slices of cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
What You’ll Do:
Cook the bacon in a pan. Remove from heat and pat dry.
Clean the pan. Slice the doughnut in half. Top one half of the doughnut with cheese. Place it, covered, on the pan and steam until the cheese is melted.
Fry one egg. As it’s frying, top it with salt and pepper to taste. Flip it and cook the other side, but leave the yolk runny.
Top the cheese with the bacon, then the egg, then the other half of the doughnut. Serve immediately.
I based this recipe off one in the 2018 Krispy Kreme calendar. That one had a few more condiments and a sage leaf, which I didn’t find necessary. Feel free to go with those, though, if you’d like.
