Did you know that there are coffee shops with travel mugs discounts that give you some money off when you bring your own reusable mug? Find out where and how much in this post.
For more ways to save, check out all of our frugal posts.

When we got married, we gave Pete’s groomsmen travel mugs as a thank you gift. Since they had all traveled to our wedding, it made a lot of sense. We put gift cards for a coffee shop inside because when you travel, you need coffee to be your copilot.
When we travel, we always have travel mugs with us. Even if we’re just traveling to the local farmers’ market to sell Pete’s small batch marinara sauce, I still always take my coffee in a travel mug.
Honestly, I’m typing this while I’m sipping water out of a travel mug. I’m a big fan of reusable coffee mugs. I’ve never, in my adult life, bought disposable cups. They just feel so wasteful to me. I’d rather just use a cup and wash it than throw away single-use cups all the time.
If you agree, you should invest in a nice coffee mug, then use it. Like even when you go out for coffee with a friend. There are a lot of coffee shops that will give you a discount if you use your own cup.
That’s is great if you’re traveling on a budget. When you start your trip, you can start with a free coffee from home. On the rest of your trip, stop at one of the coffee shops below to get a discount on your next cup of coffee (or tea). It adds up.

If you found this post because saving money by using your own travel mug sounds like a good way to stretch your travel budget, you’re in the right place. We always travel on a budget.
So, for some more ideas, check out our How To Travel On A Budget post. It’s filled with a ton of ways to save money on your next vacation with tips for saving on food, gas, budget-friendly destination ideas, and more. It’ll definitely help you vacation frugally — without feeling like you’re cutting corners.
Coffee Shops With Travel Mug Discounts
Affiliate links are included in this post and Drugstore Divas may make a small commission if you use them.
Quick note: Some coffee shops, even though they’re a part of a chain, are franchises. So they might not be participating in the discount.
Also, we filled this list with large national and regional chains. Your local coffee shops may offer a discount, but this list would get way too long if we tried to include every small shop.

7-Eleven
Not a discount of coffee, but 7-Eleven hosts Bring Your Own Cup Day where you can fill any mug-like vessel that can fit under the Slurpee drink dispenser.

Caribou Coffee
Get a $.10 discount on any drink when you use your own mug.
This is different than it used to be. You used to have to bring a Caribou Coffee branded mug (you also used to get $.50 off).

Circle K
Circle K offers a discount on refills of coffee (it charges more for your first order). If you bring in your own reusable mug, you can fill it at the refill price.

Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf
Bring in your own mug to any company-owned Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf location for a $.20 discount.

Dunkin’ Donuts
You’re able to get your own reusable cup filled at Dunkin’, but the coffee shop doesn’t offer a discount anymore.

Einstein Bros. Bagels
Get discounted refills when you bring in a travel mug.
I talked with Einstein Bros. Bagels directly about this and was told some stores do and some stores don’t. So it’s definitely a case by case basis, so checking with your local location is best.
Flying J
Get discounted refills when you fill up a specific travel mug. (I’m working on verifying this info for 2025.)

McDonald’s
I’ve gotten my travel mug filled up there, but no discounts.
Philz Coffee
Get a $.10 discount when you bring your mug in store. This discount does not apply to mobile orders.

Pilot
Get discounted refills when you fill up a specific travel mug. (I’m working on verifying this info for 2025.)

Port City Java
This coffee shop is local to me, so if you’re in the Wilmington, NC area, stop in for a coffee and save $.25 if you bring in your own mug.

Starbucks
Get a $.10 discount if you bring in any travel mug. This applies to mobile and drive through orders too.
Even better, if you’re a member of Starbucks’ loyalty program, you’ll also get 25 stars. All you need is 100 stars to redeem for a free drink.
And, if you’re drinking in store, you can get free refills of iced or hot coffee too.

Tim Hortons
Get a $.10 discount if you bring in any travel mug.

Purchase Travel Mugs Online:
If you’re looking for a good travel mug, my Yeti Rambler tumbler is my top pick. I did buy a top with a straw for it (it comes with a twist off top) and it’s definitely better. I also really love my Burnout Mug, which keeps hot beverages at the ideal temperature because of rocket science (literally).
If those are out of your budget (the Burnout one is pricy, but we got it for the blog years ago), cheap travel mugs work just as well to hold hot drinks as expensive ones. So buy whatever you can afford.
If you want to shop online for a new reusable coffee mug, check out the following stores below:
Be mindful of a store’s minimum cart total to qualify for free shipping. Also, consider instore or curbside pickup, where available, to avoid shipping charges.
Do you know of any stores offering a discount when you travel with your own travel mug? Be sure to let me know in the comments so I can add it to the post.

Wow! What a great list. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I love reusable cups that fit right in my car's cupholders. I wonder if any of these places would give discounts or refills on a diet Dr. P. :) Great tips.

This is really a great idea. I always use a travel mug when I make my own coffee, but I never think to bring it with me and ask cafes to pour my drink onto them rather than paper cups. Such an easy way to lower the amount of trash we create!

You know, you might actually ask these same shops for the same discount. I can't guarantee they will extend it, but they're actually offering you the discount because you're not taking a disposable cup, not because you are specifically buying coffee.
