Frozen Strawberry Lemonade Recipe

If you want help cooling off during the summer, this Frozen Strawberry Lemonade recipe is the perfect way to do that. It’s made from four simple ingredients (including water).

When my nephews were visiting once, my sister-in-law bought way more strawberries than they were able to eat. So, when they left, I was gifted lots of strawberries. I do make it a point to eat fruit every day, but it still was too many strawberries for me to eat, so I froze them.

If you find yourself in a similar predicament, the best suggestion I have is frozen strawberry lemonade.

It’s a way to use up over a pound of strawberries at once. And, you will absolutely get your daily in intake of fruit because it’s delicious and you’ll drink the entire glass so quickly.

Plus, it’s super easy to make it home with four ingredients, one of which is water. I like this so much better than the lemonade you can buy at the fair because that is so incredibly sweet to me and this is just a little sweet.

Of course, if you want a sweeter lemonade, you can just add more honey.

Frozen Strawberry Lemonade Recipe

This recipe makes about three 8 oz. cups of frozen lemonade. If you want to make more, you can double or triple the recipe. Just keep in mind that you don’t want to overfill the blender, so if you make more, you may need to make it in batches.

Frozen Strawberry Lemonade Ingredients:

Strawberries – We use fresh strawberries in this recipe, however, you could actually use frozen. (More about that below.)
Water – Regular tap water is fine.
Honey – we suggest 100% honey rather than imitation.
Lemons – you want fresh lemons.

How To Make Frozen Strawberry Lemonade:

Frozen strawberry halves in a clear container.

Cut the tops off of the strawberries.

Then, cut the strawberries in half.

Put them in a freezer-safe container and freeze them overnight. (You can leave them longer, up to a six months to a year, if you’re not ready to make this right away.)

Quick note: We cut them in half before freezing them because more surface area means more ice crystals, and that means your lemonade will stay more frozen when you’re done processing it.

You could freeze them whole, but you may have a more runny and less slushy lemonade.

The next day, or whenever you’re ready to make your lemonade, add your frozen strawberry pieces to a blender.

Pour the water into the blender.

Add the honey to the blender.

Add the juice from the lemons into the blender.

Quick note: Any time I talk about juicing citrus, I feel like I have to talk about Pete’s hack. Take the lemons and microwave them on high for 15 seconds. Then, roll them, with a little bit of force, on the counter.

This will help to loosen up the pulp inside and you’ll be able to get out more juice than if you were trying to squeeze a cold lemon.

Blended, frozen strawberry lemonade.

Blend until you reach your desired consistency.

Keep in mind that you’ll probably be drinking this through a straw, so you don’t want large fruit pieces that will get stuck. You also don’t want large chunks of frozen fruit because that will also get stuck in the straw.

However, you don’t want to over blend it because blending actually adds heat to whatever is inside and you risk completely melting the frozen fruit and making more of a thin smoothie rather than frozen lemonade.

Serve it in glasses, which you can garnish with some leftover frozen strawberry and a lemon wedge.

Of course, if you’re just making this for yourself, you don’t have to go all fancy with the garnish, however, I do. Because sometimes we want fancy, nice things even if we’re having them at home.

And, because I’m sure you’re wondering, you can add alcohol after you pour it into cups (if you are 21+ and want to turn this into an adult beverage).

Frozen Strawberry Lemonade: Frequently Asked Questions

How can you store frozen lemonade?

If you have any leftover frozen lemonade, you can store it in the refrigerator.

We suggest storing it in either a glass or a metal container because those hold the cold better than plastic, which means your lemonade has a better chance of staying frozen and not melting before you get to it.

You do want to drink it in the next day or so before it completely melts.

Can you make this with frozen strawberries from the grocer’s freezer?

You can use bagged, frozen strawberries to make this drink. The reason we don’t, though, is because fresh strawberries are sweeter, and so we don’t have to add that much honey to our lemonade.

So, if you have frozen strawberries, go ahead and use them, but you just might need to add a little more sweetener to get it to taste right.

Can you use sweetener other than honey?

Anytime we make frozen lemonade, we use honey. However, you could probably use agave syrup. Since that’s also a liquid sweetener, it should incorporate into the lemonade in the same way. You just may have to adjust the amount of sweetener that you add into the recipe.

We don’t suggest adding granulated sugar because it will not melt in the frozen lemonade, and, even though you’re blending this, the blender won’t really break it down, so you’ll end up with a really grainy, unappealing texture

Ingredients

  • 3 cups strawberries (1.5 to 2 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 lemons

Instructions
