DIY Jumbo Lollipop Treat Holders For Valentine’s Day Supplies:
You can get the full list of supplies in the how to card below.
- Valentine’s Day plates – Cute, colorful heart-shaped plates look best. Circular plates are a little easier to work with.
- Glue stick
- White tissue paper – The treats stand out better on white tissue paper, but you can really use whatever color you have.
- Valentine’s Day candy and toys – Choose whatever toys and candies your recipient will like best. Just make sure they’re small enough to fit in the plate.
- Clear packing tape
- Plastic tumbler straws – These will be the handle, so you need them to be sturdy. So regular plastic straws won’t work for this.
- Washi tape – Any colors work, but pink or red work best.
- Cellophane – Red cellophane works with pink or red plate; iridescent cellophane works best with other colored plates.
- Scissors
- White curling ribbon
- Valentine’s Day ribbon – If you don’t have any of this, you can skip it. But this is basically an easy way to add “Happy Valentine’s Day” to these without having to add a card.
DIY Jumbo Lollipop Treat Holders For Valentine’s Day For Valentine’s Day:

Take a look at your paper plates. If they’re white on the back side, you’re going to want to carefully turn them inside out.
Basically, just push around the convex of the plate, from the backside, so it’s concave (popped the other way).
If you find plates with color on both sides, you can skip this step.

Use your glue stick to coat the white side of the plate.

Stick your tissue paper onto the glue.
This doesn’t have to be perfect. Honestly, the crinkled look makes it look more interesting.
Quick note: You could use paper shred instead of tissue paper here. However, loose paper shred is really messy if no one is expecting it to be there, so go with the tissue paper.

Take the Valentine’s Day candy and toys and place them on top of the tissue paper.

Lay a second paper plate and place it on top so that the colored side is facing out.
Use clear packing tape to tape the sides of the two plates together so the candy remains in the middle, leaving a small gap at the bottom.

Place the tumbler straw in the small gap between the two plates.
The depth the straw goes is gonna depend on the size of your plate. You want to go in to at least to the center of the plate so that the plate holds steady and doesn’t flop around. The tumbler straws that we used are 12.5-inches long, so even with the larger plates (which are 10 inches), you still have more than six inches of tumbler straw left for a handle.

Secure the tumbler straw in place with more packing tape.
Wrap the straw with Washi tape so it looks more like a lollipop stick.

Cut a piece of cellophane large enough to cover your plates, plus extending about four inches past the plate.

Gather the cellophane at the base of the plate, where the tumbler straw is sticking out.
Tie a piece of white curling ribbon around the cellophane, where the tumbler straw meets the plate, to secure the cellophane in place.
The cellophane should hang below the ribbon.
If you think it’s too long, you could trip the cellophane that’s hanging below. But, the lollipops look so cute with a little more cellophane hanging.

Cut a piece of the Valentine’s Day ribbon and tie that on top of the white ribbon.

DIY Jumbo Lollipop Treat Holders: Frequently Asked Questions
We used two different sizes of plates to make these lollipops. The larger, disco ball-like plates, are 10-inch plates. The small paper plates that are shaped like Conversation Hearts are 7-inch plates. They’re both paper and hold up really well for this craft.
If you didn’t want to use cute paper plates like we used, you could just buy round, transparent plastic plates instead. With those, you could skip the step of pushing them out so the color is on the outside since they’re transparent.
Wrapped treats work best in these treat holders. The plates are food safe, but not when you turn the plates inside out, so you want to stick with wrapped candy.
Fun-sized chocolates work better than full-sized chocolate bars because they take up less space so you can fit more of a variety in your treat holder. Buy a few bags of candy, or a large variety bag, so you can mix and match. Heart-shaped chocolates, Ring Pops, and candy necklaces and bracelets are all great ideas.
Mix in a few small toys too, just so it’s not all candy.
Our large disco ball-like plates were mostly red and pink, so the red cellophane matches perfectly. The Conversation Hearts plates came in multiple colors, which would look different in red cellophane. So for those we used an iridescent cellophane so you could still see the color of the plates, but you also still get a pretty shine.
