A bag of trail mix with a poem attached and the words "Thanksgiving Blessing Mix" digitally written on top.

A few years ago, when Pete was still working at an elementary school, he hosted an annual Thanksgiving party. It grew into a wonderful tradition for the class, the parents, and the school. One year, the kids made Thanksgiving Blessing Mix to give out to everyone.

I had never seen it before and instantly fell in love with it.

This Thanksgiving Blessing Mix is really easy to make. You might even have all the ingredients in your pantry right now. Your kids can easily make a bunch, so there can be one at every place setting for Thanksgiving.

What’s really cute about the Thanksgiving Blessing Mix is every item represents a part of Thanksgiving. It isn’t just random items thrown together to make a trail mix.

In a large bowl, mix together the corn chips, pretzels, candy corn, nuts/seeds, dried fruit, and M&M’s.

Put about 1/4 cup of the mix in a plastic sandwich bag. Add two Hershey’s Kisses.

Tie the bag with a small piece of ribbon.

The Bugles are a cornucopia or Horn of Plenty. Pretzels are arms folded in prayer. The candy corn represents the harsh winter the pilgrims had, surviving on only a few kernels of corn each day. Nuts/seed represent the promise of a full harvest. Dried fruits are a gift from the land. The M&M’s are memories of those who came before us and guide us to a blessed future (M&M’s and memories is a stretch for me, based on how you say M&M’s, but I didn’t create this so I can’t edit it either). And the Hershey’s Kisses are the love of family and friends that sweetens our life.

I’m honestly not sure who created the Thanksgiving Blessing Mix poem printable originally. But, the Thanksgiving Blessing Mix recipe gift tag that Pete’s class made used the Cranial Hiccups printout. So that’s what’s in my photos and what I linked to in this post.
