Whenever I am planning what I’m bringing to Thanksgiving, I make sure to come up with ideas that my nieces and nephews can help me make.

That means I need to come up with simple, cute recipes that come together very quickly because young kids have short attention spans.

Plus, if you know me, I am all about over-the-top adorable holiday treats.

One of my favorites for Thanksgiving are these Turkey Oreo Cookies. All you’re doing is decorating, which means this no bake Thanksgiving dessert comes together in minutes.

Turkey Oreo Cookies Ingredients:

You can get the full list of ingredients with measurements in the recipe card below.

  • Oreo cookies – The double stuffed Oreo cookie, or whatever comparable generic brand you buy, is better than the regular or thin cookies because it gives you more room for the candy corn.
  • Candy corn – If you’re a planner, buy candy corn during after-Halloween sales to get it for half price, then save it to use it for Thanksgiving cookies.
  • Almond bark – Almond bark melts a lot easier than chocolate chips and can be reheated, which is especially helpful if you’re making these with kids who are moving slowly.
  • Candy eyeballs – We use the smaller size, however, the medium-sized eyeballs would also work.
  • Peanut butter chips – If all you have are chocolate chips, you could use those, but these are meant to be the nose and milk or dark chocolate chips they blend in to the cookie too much.

How To Make Turkey Oreo Cookies:

An open Oreo cookie.

Twist open the Oreo cookie.

Quick note: I’m using Oreo cookies as a generic term for the cookie. But you can use any brand. Also, if you have extras, we have a list of desserts with Oreo cookies with ideas of ways to finish the pack.

Four pieces of candy corn stuck into the cream of an Oreo cookie.

Push four pieces of candy corn into the cookie’s cream.

These will be the turkey feathers, so you want them to lay as close to each other as possible.

You also want to make sure that they’re sticking out of the cookie as much as possible too so you can see the majority of the feathers.

Melted white chocolate on top of four pieces of candy corn that are stuck into the cream of an Oreo cookie.

Melt the almond bark according to the package.

This post uses vanilla almond bark, but almond bark also comes in chocolate. If you have the chocolate almond bark handy, you can use that instead. It’s inside the cookie, so it really doesn’t matter.

Spoon a tiny bit of the melted almond bark on top of the bottoms of the candy corn.

This will act like a glue to reattach the cookie together, so you don’t need a ton of chocolate per cookie.

Stick the top of the cookie back, on top of the chocolate “glue.”

Dip a toothpick into the melted chocolate bark.

Use it to add a dot of chocolate into the middle-ish, top third of the cookie.

This is where the first eye is going, so you can sort of figure out the spacing based on that.

Place a candy eyeball on top of the dot.

I use the smaller size of candy eyeballs when I make these turkeys. The larger size does look cute too, but candy eyeballs are basically a hard bite of solid sugar. So putting two of the large eyes on one cookie isn’t that appetizing.

Add a second dot of melted almond bark next to where you added the first eye.

At the second eye on top of the second dot of chocolate.

Add a dot of melted almond bark below, but in between, the two eyes.

Put a peanut butter chip on top of that dot.

This is the turkey’s nose.

The peanut butter chip may have a little swirl on the top. I make those all point to the right.

You can position them anyway you want although going horizontally seems to look a little bit cuter than if you put that swirl vertically.

Continue until you’ve made all of the turkeys you want.

Let the almond bark cool before eating.

Turkey Oreo Cookies: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use other cookies to make these?

We are calling these Turkey Oreo Cookies, but “the “Oreo cookies” is just a generic way to say black and white sandwich cookies. So, you can use any other brand of those that you want. Buy whatever is cheapest or on sale. They all taste the same.

If you wanted to use a different type of sandwich cookie altogether, like a Nutter Butter cookie, you could basically follow the same instructions however it would look completely different because it’s a completely different cookie.

Can you make these ahead of time?

You can absolutely make these ahead of time. If you do, just make sure to store them in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve them.

They’ll be best within the week, but store-bought cookies seem to stay fresh indefinitely as long as they’re in something airtight.
