My brother and I are the perfect wing eating team. I like the flats and he likes the drums. So when we order wings together, we’re both happy — and all the wings get eaten.

No matter what style wings you prefer, get ready for July 29. That’s when chicken wing lovers around the country flock (see what I did there?) to restaurants in honor of National Chicken Wing Day.

Okay, that sounds a little ridiculous. But it’s true. At least, restaurants do offer special deals and free chicken wings to celebrate the holiday. The chicken wing fans running out might be an exaggeration. But that’s what restaurants are hoping will happen.

If you’re intrigued, you’ll love this list. We gathered all of the National Chicken Wing Day Freebies And Deals so you can choose your favorite way to celebrate.

National Chicken Wing Day: Frequently Asked Questions

What is National Chicken Wing Day?

National Chicken Wing Day is a national holiday that celebrates just wings. That’s it. Nothing more.

When did Chicken Wing Day start?

It started on July 29, 1977 in Buffalo, New York — home of the Buffalo wing.

There are two main wing rivals in Buffalo: Anchor Bar and Duff’s. And, when you’re there, you must pledge your loyalty the one you think is the better place for wings. Just like Pat’s and Geno’s Cheesesteaks in Philly. Them’s the rules.

Who started National Chicken Wing Day?

Then-Buffalo mayor Stan Makowski proclaimed that first Chicken Wing Day in 1977. It became a national holiday a few years later.

This is not to be confused with International Chicken Wing Day, which is July 1. Restaurants in the United States don’t celebrate on this day and rather wait for the day later in the month.
