Chocolate is the most common treat to give trick-or-treaters on Halloween. But, in recent years, people are trying to figure out candy-free alternatives to have just in case because of food allergies. A lot of non-candy treats are kind of lame, like spider rings that don’t fit anyone’s fingers and vampire teeth that hurt kids’ mouths. A better idea: glow sticks.
Glow sticks are so much fun. Everyone loves glow sticks, plus they’re actually really helpful for safety for kids who are trick-or-treating into the dark evening.
Sure, you could buy a bunch of glow sticks and just hand them out and that would be just fine. But, if you’re extra like me, you’re gonna want to make them into fun favors.
A simple way to do that is with our free Halloween glow stick printable. All you have to do is print and assemble. And, if you tell people that you came up with this Halloween party favor idea all on your own and designed the tag yourself, that’s fine. We won’t tell.

These glow sticks are a great addition to your Halloween treats. If you’re looking for more inspiration, we have a post about How To Make The Perfect Halloween Treat Bowl with ideas of what to add to your Halloween bowl, plus a cute free printable with a fun Haunted house design that you can set up in case you’re not going to be home on Halloween.

Our free printable in this post is designed to fit the long, thin glow sticks that are also called glow bracelets. Those are 8-inches long. The ones marketed as glow necklaces are 22-inches long and would be way too long to fit.

How To Make DIY Halloween Glow Stick Party Favors:

Print out the free printable (at the end of this post).
It’s formatted to fit on an 8.5- x 11-inch piece of printer paper so you can easily print it at home.
If you want to make these a little more sturdy, you can print them on card stock. But, if you need to be a little more frugal with these, you can use standard printer paper instead.
Cut the printable into four rectangles.

Use a pair of scissors to careful cut a small slit at the top and bottom of the circle.

Slide a glow stick in the top slit, behind the paper, and come out through the bottom slit.
Continue until you’re done with all of them.

DIY Halloween Glow Stick Party Favors: Frequently Asked Questions
As long as you don’t crack heather, glow sticks will last just over a year. So, if you have extras from Halloween, you can either save them for next Halloween or you can use them on the fourth of July.
The Halloween glow stick tags we made are designed to fit the thin, 8-inch long glow sticks. However, you can cut a larger slit to fit the thicker, shorter glow sticks.
If you do that, though, I would recommend cutting a bit off the top and bottom of each tag because they would feel a little long with a shorter glow stick.
Or, what you could do is get a long treat bag that’s used for packing chocolate pretzel rods, put the printable in the bag of the bag, and put the glow stick in the front of the bag. Just make sure that if you’re doing that, you have a bag that’s wide or tall enough to fit the glow stick. You don’t want to crack them trying to force them into cellophane bags because then they won’t glow for the kids you give them to.
I don’t suggest using double-sided tape on these. Yes, that would be easier if you’re making this with your own child for classroom gifts, but you would end up taping the glow stick right over the words on the printable and that would kind of defeat the purpose of the words actually being there. But, if that’s what you want to do, go right ahead. These are yours now. Do whatever is easiest for you.
