One way to save lots of money this summer is by making your own burgers. I know my family practically lives on grilled food all through July and August. Most of the time, we are grilling burgers. You would think that opening a cardboard box of premade burgers is so much easier than getting out the hamburger press, adding ground meat, and pounding out a burger at a time. I have one of those and it is very time consuming to use. Is the time spent going through all the trouble of making the fresh burgers worth the savings? The burgers do taste a lot better than the ones that come out of the box, though. What would you think if I told you that you could have those delicious, freshly made, less expensive burgers in a matter of minutes?

I am so excited to tell you about the silicone burger press that I just got from Cave Tools. I was able to make six 5 oz. burgers in about two minutes. All I needed to do was take two pounds of ground meat (I used turkey) and spread it into the bottom half of the press, put the top cover on, flatten, take the top off. That was it. I had six perfectly square burgers. So easy!

A great feature of the press is that you can freeze your burgers in it so if you are not ready to have your burgers, but ground beef was on sale, you can make your burgers in the burger press and put the whole press in your freezer until you are ready to grill. It could be months until you are ready for your burgers, but you don’t have to worry about freezer burn because each square is an individually sealed compartment that prevents freezer burn.

I made turkey burgers and topped each one with a slice of onion and froze them. We just had them tonight at dinner. My husband grilled them and said that he liked the built in dimple in the press. He said it made the burgers stay flat so that they cooked evenly. And my mom must have told me at least three times how much she was enjoying her burger.

Now if that’s not easy enough, let me tell you about the cleanup. The silicone press is dishwasher safe, which even makes the cleanup a breeze!

I am so happy with my new Cave Tools burger press for making and freezing my burgers. The next time I use it, though, will be when I make soup. I’ll use the press to portion and store my leftovers. I hope my mom has the same reaction to her soup as she did with her burger!

We grill out burgers a lot, and you are right, it saves us so much money! I really would like to try this.
