One of my best hotel hacks is making a mocha using ingredients found at the hotel’s complimentary coffee bar.

One of my favorite hotel amenities is when there’s a coffee maker in the lobby. I like to check in, grab a cup of coffee, and go to the room to relax for a while.
And, because of some trial and error, I’ve figured out how to make the perfect mocha in a hotel.
It’s a lot cheaper than a coffeehouse mocha, plus you can make it in the hotel lobby. So you don’t have to find a coffeehouse in a new city before enjoying a relaxing drink.
It’s my favorite hotel hack.

This mocha coffee hotel hack works when you’re in a hotel that has a complimentary coffee bar in its lobby or in its breakfast section that also has hot chocolate.
If the hotel only offers complimentary coffee in the hotel room, this hack won’t work because hot chocolate packets aren’t generally offered in the hotel room.

A mocha is a drink that combines chocolate and coffee, so as long as your hotel offers both, you can make this delicious concoction at the hotel’s coffee bar.
Then, take it up to your room, kick your shoes off, put your feet up, and enjoy your night away from home.
Hotel Mocha Ingredients:
You can get the full list of ingredients with measurements in the recipe card below.
- Hot chocolate mix – Any brand that the hotel has is fine.
- Coffee – Regular or decaf is fine.
- French vanilla cream containers – Vanilla is best because it adds a creaminess and balances the chocolate a little without adding a competing flavor.
How To Make The Perfect Mocha In A Hotel:

Add the entire content of the hot chocolate mix packet into a hot cup.
Quick note: Some hotels will only have hot chocolate packets available during breakfast. So, if you’re an evening mocha person, you may be able to nicely ask the staff for a packet when you check in.

Pour in 10 oz. of hot coffee (out of the hotel’s carafe).
Quick note: Honestly, just fill the cup to the top-ish. I don’t really measure this.

Add two French vanilla creamers. If the hotel doesn’t have French vanilla, you can add half and half creamers instead, but the French vanilla adds a little bit of extra taste to this.
Stir (with a coffee stirrer if that’s what the hotel offers; with a spoon if you’re lucky enough to get one outside of breakfast hours).
Put a lid on and let the coffee sit for three to five minutes.
Stir again and enjoy.
Hotel Mocha Hack: Frequently Asked Questions
This mocha recipe uses ingredients found in the coffee bar of a hotel’s lobby. If you’re not in a hotel, but you’re craving this, you can just use these ingredients to make the perfect mocha at home.
An individual creamer is .375 oz. You need two for this recipe, so that’s .750 oz., which is 3/4 of an ounce — or 3/4 of a shot glass.
So if you’re at home and using a full bottle of creamer when you’re making this, measure 3/4 of a shot glass and add that if you want to keep the same proportions.
