Want a guilt-free dinner? Make these Pizza Bagels (from 2 Ingredient Dough). Three are 7 Weight Watchers Freestyle Points.
You know when you meet a new guy, and you really start hanging out and liking them, every single one of your stories is about them? That’s me right now. No, I haven’t met a new man. Pete and I are still great. I mean it’s me right now with 2 Ingredient Dough. I’m still obsessed. I made two different things with it last week — pizza and garlic knots. Oh, we’ll get to those recipes on Drugstore Divas one day, but for right now, I want to tell you about the Pizza Bagels with 2 Ingredient Dough bagels I made last week.
Holy moly.
I’m not going to say these are my favorite thing I’ve made with 2 Ingredient Dough (that’s still the pita chips), but these are a pretty close runner up. We ate them — nay, we inhaled them — for dinner.
I made eight bagels, which meant 16 pizza bagels, and we only had four leftover for Pete to bring for lunch the next day.
These seem time consuming since you’re making the bagels fresh, but I promise you they’re worth the effort. Plus, if you make the dough as often as I do, it’s a pretty quick process.
These 2 Ingredient Dough Pizza Bagels are Weight Watchers friendly. If you’re starting Weight Watchers, be sure to check out our Weight Watchers tips post below first.
Pizza Bagels (from 2 Ingredient Dough)
What You’ll Need:
- 2 Ingredient Dough (double batch)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
What You’ll Do:
Pre-heat the oven to 350.
Make the 2 ingredient dough (our full recipe is here, but the quick recipe is to mix together a cup of self-rising flour and a cup of non-fat Greek yogurt).
Add some salt and garlic powder into the 2 Ingredient Dough and form it into a ball.
Separate the dough into eight equal pieces. Roll one of the pieces into a log, then stick the ends together to make an “O” shape. Put the bagel onto a foil-lined cookie sheet. Continue until you’ve made all eight bagels.
Small aside here. Usually, I dredge the bagels in an egg wash before baking them. But I don’t recommend that for these. The egg wash adds a beautiful shine, but you don’t need that for these since that shine would be on the bottom anyway.
Bake your bagels for 28 to 30 minutes (times vary with your oven).
When they’re done, cut them in half, and put them cut side up on your cookie sheet.
Use a pastry brush to brush oil on the cut side of the bagel. Now would be a good time to add any seasoning you might want (garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, etc.).
Top the oil with marinara sauce.
Finish with shredded mozzarella cheese. If you wanted to add any toppings (vegetables, cooked meat, etc.) now would be the time to do it.
Put the Pizza Bagels in the oven until the cheese is melted, about five minutes.
Optional: Sprinkle with fresh chopped herbs.
Eat warm.
How many Weight Watchers points are Pizza Bagels?
If you’re on Weight Watchers, you’re probably very familiar with 2 Ingredient Dough bagels. They’re a great option because they’re only 3 Freestyle Points, as opposed to a traditional bagel, which is around 11 points.
This recipe makes 16 Pizza Bagels (we’re counting the halves as one), and the entire recipe is 38 points, so it’s about 2.38 points per pizza bagel. That makes 3 bagels only 7 Weight Watchers Freestyle Points.
That’s a lot better than heading out for a slice of pizza.
And yes, I know it’s actually 7.125 points for three. But you can’t count partial points on Weight Watchers, and the 0.125 point isn’t going to make or break your day.
Pair it with a salad and you have a full meal for a few points.
Can you use store-bought bagels to make Pizza Bagels?
Of course you can use store-bought bagels to make Pizza Bagels. Using a non-homemade bagel would really make your life a little easier.
I would stick with fresh bagels though. So either bagels you pick up at the bagel store or in the bakery at your local grocery store.
Personally, I would stay away from frozen bagels. Frozen bagels would work as Pizza Bagels, but they wouldn’t taste as good as if you make them with fresh bagels.
Can you use flavored bagels to make Pizza Bagels?
I prefer using plain bagels when I make Pizza Bagels. When I’m making 2 Ingredient Dough bagels for Pizza Bagels, I will add a little salt and garlic powder into the dough, but I don’t use everything bagel seasoning like I do when I’m making bagels for breakfast. I think too much seasoning takes away from the pizza aspect of these.
What can you top Pizza Bagels with?
What’s really fun about Pizza Bagels is they’re basically tiny pizzas. So you can make a whole bunch of different tiny pizzas for dinner. Everyone will love that.
You can top Pizza Bagels with anything that you would top a traditional pizza with. Personally, I love pepperoni on top of my Pizza Bagels. You can just open a package of pepperoni and put the slices right on top of the pizza when you add the cheese.
Pete loves vegetables on his pizza. If you do too, consider diced bell peppers for the Pizza Bagels. Just remember, if you’re going to add any vegetables, make sure you cut them pretty small or they’ll take up the whole Pizza Bagel.
How do you reheat Pizza Bagels?
If you have leftovers, Pizza Bagels are really great reheated in the oven. Just put them down on a foil-lined cookie sheet and then directly onto the middle rack of your oven. Heat them at 350 for about ten minutes until the cheese is melted. Keep an eye on the Pizza Bagels because oven times can vary.
I wouldn’t recommend reheating these Pizza Bagels in a microwave, mostly because that’s never my recommendation. The Pizza Bagels taste fine if you microwave them for about 40 seconds to reheat them, but the bagel will get a little soft.
