#ad It's the time of year for chicken soup. Don't slave over the stove! Make this slow cooker chicken soup from www.drugstoredivas.net instead. #HealthySavings

Pete calls this time of year “Snuggle Season.” It’s finally cold enough to snuggle all night long. That’s great … except for the fact that it’s cold. And cold means colds.

Ugh, right?

No one wants to be sick, but it’s pretty inevitable. At some point this season, you’ll probably get sick. And when you’re sick, all you want is your mom’s chicken soup, right? That and maybe something like Advil® Sinus Congestion & Pain too.

But sometimes, you’re too sick to make soup and shop for relief. That’s when it’s nice to have a friend who will deliver you comfort.

In the times you’re not the one sick, you might want to make a huge batch of chicken soup for a friend who is sick. You don’t have to slave over a stove making your mom’s chicken soup every time you have a sick friend though. Instead, you should make my mom’s chicken soup. Why? Because she has a recipe for the best slow cooker chicken soup.

Don’t worry. I’m sharing her (not so) secret recipe below.

Add your egg noodles.

Cook on high an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until your noodles are very tender.

Very carefully, shred your chicken breasts. You can do this with two forks or meat claws, whatever you have at home.

Now, if you’re eating this yourself for dinner, you’ll want to serve it warm. But if you’re making this for a sick friend, you’ll need to store it.

What we do is put it in a mason jar when it’s piping hot, quickly closing the top, then flip the jar. What happens is you’ll be able to disinfect the inside of the lid and it will also form a seal. When your friend opens it, that very cool “pop” sound will happen.

We usually pick up those sorts of things when I can pair with a coupon and a sale. Then, when we’re sick, or when one of our friends is sick, I can just run into our closet instead of running to the store.

Can you freeze Slow Cooker Chicken Soup?

Slow Cooker Chicken Soup is easy to freeze. Put the soup in a air tight container and keep it in the freezer for up to three months.

The only thing is the noodles don’t do well in the freezer. So, you’ll want to make this Slow Cooker Chicken Soup recipe, but skip adding the noodles. When you want to reheat the frozen soup, that’s when you’ll add the noodles.

How do you store leftover Slow Cooker Chicken Soup?

If you have leftover Slow Cooker Chicken Soup, and you don’t want to freeze it, you should put the soup in air tight containers after it has cooled. Keep those containers in the fridge until you’re ready to eat them.

Leftover homemade soup can be stored in the fridge for about three days. If you won’t use it by then, I would suggest you freeze the leftover soup.

How do you reheat Slow Cooker Chicken Soup?

If you are reheating frozen soup, put the container in the fridge overnight to defrost. When you’re ready to reheat it, pour the soup into a pot on the stove and heat it that way. While that’s heating, boil water and heat the egg noodles according to the package. When the soup is heated and the noodles are cooked, combine them.

If you are reheating soup you’ve stored in the fridge, your best bet is to heat it in a pot on the stovetop. It’s really good reheated that way. You may need to add extra water to the soup before you reheat it because the noodles may have absorbed a majority of the liquid in the soup.

You could also heat up individual servings of soup in the microwave, but you do risk the soup popping and getting all over your microwave.

What to serve with Slow Cooker Chicken Soup?

Slow Cooker Chicken Soup is a meal all itself since it contains a protein, vegetables, and a carb. But, if you wanted to serve something on the side, a good crunchy bread is a delicious idea. A side salad works as a side as well.

How long will the "canned" soup last? Do you keep it in the refrigerator?

Hey Maria!

If we're going to eat it during the week, I'll keep it in the fridge. If you're making it to save it, two to three months in the freezer is your best bet (but I've definitely kept soups in the freezer longer than that and served them for dinner).
