I have decorations for every holiday, except Easter. It’s strange because Easter is really cute, and I’m a big fan of cute things, so you would think I would have a house full of chicks and bunnies and crosses.

Not so much.

So of course, I had to put together some fun arts and crafts ideas for Easter. I really wanted a wreath to hang on our door, but I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on it. So, I decided to make this wreath with simple supplies from the dollar store.

You might actually have all the supplies you need to make this at home already.

How To Make A DIY Paper Easter Egg Wreath:

When you’re choosing the gift bag, you want to pick one with a fun design and pastel colors on the front. You want it to be able to look like decorated Easter eggs, so keep that in mind. You also want to make sure it has thicker strips of string for the handles because you’ll use those to hang the wreath up.

Scissors next to a white paper egg.

Cut out an egg-shaped stencil from a white sheet of cardstock. If you have an egg-shaped cookie cutter, you can use that, but I just freehanded my egg shape.

The back of a gift card with an egg shape drawn on it.

Cut the gift bag apart. Cut a slit down one edge of the bag, then cut off the bottom of the bag. You can then unfold it. After you do, remove the string handles from the bag.

Trace the egg-shaped stencil on the blank side of the bag and cut out egg shapes.

Do the same on a piece of purple cardstock.

I made five solid eggs and six from the gift bag, but you will decide what works for your wreath.

We made the eggs all the same size, but if you wanted to make some larger eggs and some smaller eggs, you could do that. Use your creativity.

Two circles drawn on white card stock.

From the white cardstock, cut out one large round circle, then cut a smaller circle from the center of it.

Five paper eggs on a white circle form.

Secure the eggs to the card stock circle with tape. Arrange them in whatever order you like.

We positioned them so they’re all going in the same direction, but you could move them around and put them in different directions (even going around the wreath on their side) if you’d prefer.

If you don’t have tape, you could use glue stick, a little bit of white glue, or a glue dot to hold the eggs down. We don’t suggest hot glue for this since it is a paper wreath and is just a little too flimsy for hot glue.

Decide which egg will be the top of the wreath. Punch a hole at the top of the two paper eggs next to that top egg. Thread the gift bag’s handle through the holes and tie it in the back.

Now it’s time to make a banner.

Draw a banner on the white cardstock and cut it out. Draw a thin line around the edges, then write something like “Happy Easter” across it and tape it to the front of the wreath.

I freehanded the banner and the lettering on the banner, but you could probably print something online if you don’t like your handwriting.

If you’re really feeling adventurous, you could make a paper bunny and hide it somewhere between the eggs, since this is an Easter wreath craft.

Hang it on your front door using a wreath hanger and enjoy the season.

DIY Paper Easter Egg Wreath: Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make an Easter paper plate wreath?

Paper plate crafts are really popular because people always have paper plates. If you wanted to, you could turn this into a paper plate Easter egg wreath.

That would make this a little easier because you wouldn’t have to cut a circle out of the white card stock. Instead, you would cut out the center of a paper plate and use the outer ring as the base for your wreath.

Do you have to use a gift bag to make paper eggs?

I used a gift bag to make the eggs because I loved the look of it, but you don’t have to do that.

If you have a younger kid who wants to help with this craft, you can have him or her color bright colors on a piece of card stock and then cut out eggs from that drawing. You could also use this free Easter egg template to print eggs onto printer paper and then have your child color them there. Then, use those eggs in the craft. That would be such a fun way to get your kids involved.

It’s your craft, so use whatever creative ways you can think of to make eggs and make this craft personalized to you and your family.

But, just keep in mind that if you do use something else, you’ll need to pick up some sort of rope to use to hang the wreath.

Can you use plastic eggs for this?

We don’t recommend using plastic eggs for this. They would be way too heavy for the card stock base.

If you really wanted to use plastic Easter eggs to make a wreath, we suggest using a wire wreath form and a hot glue gun to affix the eggs. That’s an entirely different craft though.
