JCPenney: Sales Are Coming Back

jcp logoJCPenney is one of the most confusing stores there is. To be honest, I never understood where JCP fit in the marketplace.

It’s a big box, mass merchant store. Fine. So it’s Macy’s. But Macy’s is high-end and known for suits. Sears is the same category but it’s known for tools and appliances. Boscov’s is similar too except it has an amazing candy department that none of those stores can rival. Plus, the clearance at Boscov’s puts those other stores to shame.

JCPenney, it’s a mess. Start with the name. Is it’s JC Penney, JCPenney, JCP, or jcp? I’m very sure that it’s JCPenney, but this has chanced over the years.

Also changing is the fact that almost exactly a year ago, the chain said it is not doing sales. It rolled out that nice new square logo and said everything is a square deal. All items are a whole dollar price point and Ellen can sleep in and not rush to a shoe sale on Black Friday at JCP because there’s no sale.

And then, instead of handing out snow globes on Black Friday this year like the store has for more years than I can remember, it gave out buttons. We actually wrote about the JCPenney button promo, in case you missed it.

But now, JCPenney realized that’s not working out. So now, JCP announced that it is bringing back sales. I just watched this video about it and, really, it made me worry about the future of JCP. Although, to be honest, the only time I went to JCP since the store stopped sales was when I had that $10 off coupon and I got my free socks.

What do you think about this?

I think this is a great post!

I hope jcp keeps the sales going.

I think the new CEO (is he even there anymore) messed up big time with the pricing at JC Penney. Their everyday price was no deal at all. I have not set foot in a JC Penney since the new pricing took over. I used to be able to get awesome deals such as markdown tops and sweaters for a few dollars. I hope that this change will bring the shoppers back into the stores or JC Penney will go the way of Montgomery Ward and others that have closed recently.
