Ice cream with chocolate shell and sprinkles in a bowl with coconut oil and toothpaste in the background and the words "Homemade Chocolate Shell" digitally written on top.

A few months ago, I bought a huge jar of coconut oil for a recipe. Pete started using it for everything. He would add some to his hair, rub it on his skin, and was brushing his teeth with it.

And then I started using it in random things too, like homemade body wash and homemade chocolate shell.

Coconut oil is really a lot more versatile than we give it credit for.

Now, here’s the cool thing about this chocolate shell … a magic chocolate shell, if you will. The chocolate will stay as a liquid until it hits something cold, like ice cream. That cold will “activate” the chocolate shell and it will harden almost immediately. But, for as long as it’s warm, it won’t harden.

You can’t use this as hard chocolate shell for cake or something room-temperature. It will taste good, but it won’t harden to form a shell. It needs to be something freezing cold, like ice cream or gelato.
