Mummy Candy Bars Tutorial

Two candy bars dressed up to look like mummies.

When we were growing up, we would go trick or treating with my cousins. My mom would make special treat bags for my cousins and my aunts would make special treat bags for us. If you do the same thing, these Mummy Candy Bars should be part of those treat bags.

These Mummy Chocolate Bars are a really simple Halloween craft that you can make and give out for Halloween. Plus, there’s a good chance you have all the materials at home.

Mummy Candy Bars Supplies:

How To Make Mummy Candy Bars:

White streamer rolls.

Cut off a long strip of the white streamer.

White streamer taped to a candy bar.

Fold it in half and use a piece of tape to affix it to the back of the candy bar.

Wrap the white streamer around the candy bar at a diagonal angle, all the way down to the bottom of the candy bar.

White streamer wrapped around a candy bar and taped at the top.

Then, wrap the white streamer in a diagonal angle in the opposite direction, all the way to the top of the candy bar. Tape the streamer to keep it in place and set the candy bar aside.

Eyes made out of card stock.

Cut circles from the white card stock to make eyes. Glue then down onto the black card stock.

Cut tiny circles from the black card stock. Glue them down into the centers of the white circles to make pupils.

Cut out the eyes, making sure to leave a little black around the outside as a border.

Mummy Candy Bar.

Glue the eyes onto the top portion of the streamer-wrapped candy bar.

Very carefully, move the streamer above the eyes so they poke through, if the streamer allows.

On some of these, you may not have a flap that will fall over the eyes, so in that case just glue the card stock eyes on top of the streamer. Let the glue dry.

Mummy Candy Bars: Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of candy bars work best in these Mummy Candy Bars?

Any candy bars work in these Mummy Candy Bars, as long as the candy bars are rectangular or square shaped. Most packaged candy and chocolate bars are shaped that way, so most should work.

Even theater box candy would work. And actually, that would work really well because that box would stand up, so it would be a super cute way to display these on your porch (if you were leaving them for trick-or-treaters).

But anything that’s a square or rectangle would work, so get creative. Wrap up a box of crackers, if you don’t give our sweets for Halloween. Or, if you do sweet, wrap up a package of cookies. Be creative.

What can I use other than streamers?

Streamers are super cheap, which is why they’re ideal for this Halloween craft.

While we’re speaking about the streamers, let me just mention that you don’t have to fold them in half. I just prefer the way they look, since the candy bar isn’t huge. But if you’re using a large box of candy (or even a package of cookies), you don’t have to fold the streamers in half. Just leave them as is.

But, if you want something a little less disposable, you can use gauze rolls instead. Making mummies using gauze rolls is really cute, just a little more expensive than using streamers.

If you do use gauze rolls, you would just follow the same process as you do for the streamers.

You could also use white crepe paper, which is basically streamers, just in a large sheet (like wrapping paper) rather than a small roll.

Do you have to cut out the eyes?

I’m a big fan of cutting things out of card stock. I used to make my own pop up cards in high school from card stock, so freehanding things like mummy eyes is just something I do.

But, to make this Halloween craft even easier for you, instead of cutting the eyes out of card stock, you can use googly eyes instead. Just glue those where you want the eyes to go.

And, if you want to make this even easier, you can just grab a marker and draw the eyes on top of the white streamer. It’s your craft, so make it however you like.

Purchase Mummy Chocolate Bars & Wrappers:

If you like these, but you don’t have the time to make them before Halloween, that’s okay.

We found a couple links where you can purchase fully-wrapped Mummy Chocolate Bars (like the ones above) and wrappers so you can wrap your own.

If you are going to purchase the wrappers only, keep in mind that they are all digital downloads. So, that means you get access to a file that you can download to your computer.

Then, you’ll need access to a printer, plus printer paper and ink, in order to print those. And you’ll still need to order candy bars to use as well. So keep that in mind.

I’m sure you could figure that out yourself, but I did want to bring it up just in case you weren’t completely sure.
